Luming Large
Since Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan represent prominent role models these days, the future seems bedazzled, but bleak. April showers bring Literary Luminaries umbrellas though, featuring caricatures of more intellectually stimulating women. Female artists including Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe don one version, while the faces of writers and poets like Virginia Woolf, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Louisa May Alcott, Mary Shelley, Emma Lazarus, Sylvia Plath and Dickinson (Emily, not Janice) grace another. Perhaps rain or shine, it’s time to steer the trend away from extensions and toy dogs and towards creative exploration. At least the ladies walking under these umbrellas can look up to something worthwhile. $21.95, luminarygraphics.com, Chevalier’s Books, 126 N. Larchmont Blvd., (323) 465-1334
