Ugandan women harvest freedom through jewelry

Some of us just talk about making a difference— and others, like Bostonite Karen Sparacio, actually act on their conscience. An award-winning photographer (can't you tell from these awesome product shots?), Sparacio founded Project Have Hope, a non-profit dedicated to empowering women and their families in the Acholi quarter of Uganda. Project Have Hope allows women to sell their stunning handcrafted, beaded jewelry (which is made from recycled paper) to the international consumer. $10 for a necklace may not seem much to us, but it's helping to women in Acholi achieve financial independence.
