The Candy-Coated Queen

Who can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh, soak it in the sun and make a groovy lemon pie? Okay, maybe not Queen Elizabeth II. But still, The Stylephile has to give this Candydame a nod for her unflinching refusal to pair two contrasting colors. And just try to make her Highness leave the house without a brooch, we dare you. Does she pin it on herself, we wonder?
A few years back, French designer Sonia Rykiel took the Queen to task and implored her to stop wearing "garish suits and hats." The Stylephile doesn't concur. From what we saw in that excellent film "The Queen," it would seem that wearing pastel-hued ensembles is this woman's sole form of emotional exhibitionism. And, um, this is not a new look for the Queen. She has been pairing daffodil with daffodil and royal blue with royal blue for as long as we can remember.
But we did manage to find this one shot of her (see below) wearing a floral dress sans matching chapeau. And quite frankly, we don't like it one bit.June 19, 2007 in FASHION | Permalink
