Rich Teens Make Us Seethe

   It's bad enough that some accessories cost more than memorial plots. Even worse? The news that designer labels comprise about 15.3% of purchases made by 13 to 17-year-olds. Oh my God! Five years ago, that percentage hovered at 9.6 percent, according to The NPD Group, a market research firm. 
   Based in Los Angeles, The Stylephile sees its share of adolescents shouldering Prada bags and toddlers wearing Gucci booties. Perhaps the most revolting incident: a long limbed, aspiring Heather with honey highlights throwing a pair of designer jeans at a saleswoman in the Beverly Hills Saks. "I said 26! 26! 26!" she shouted to the woman. Her mother was either doped up on Xanax or secretly pretending that she had never gone off the pill, as she ignored the entire tantrum. 
   Back in the day, when The Stylephile was just a freckle-faced husky girl buying a Coach saddle bag (there were  none of those fancy Hamptons totes in those days) or a Benetton sweater, life seemed simpler. And more reasonable. Would you buy your teen daughter a Louis Vuitton epi? If the answer is "yes," will you buy one for us too? Please, Mom? Come on. You promised. What? Forget it. Fine. We hate you.
