M Z Wallace handbag giveaway

Don't you hate it when you buy a cute handbag only to realize that sadly, it's anorexic? Meaning, it won't hold more than a lipstick and cell phone before starting to bulge. Which is why we love M Z WALLACE, the high end New York handbag company founded in 2000 by Lucy Wallace Eustice and Monica Zwirner. Their handbag philosophy is based on form and function, style and substance...meaning M Z WALLACE bags can elegantly hold your entire makeup collection, two cellphones, a couple copies of "The Secret" and a small pet—and still have room for a bagel.
“Each and every bag in the Bedford collection has a minimum of six pockets, they are lightweight, water repellant, and can be carried in the hand or over the shoulder,” says Monica Zwirner, Founder and Co-Owner of M Z WALLACE, who is gifting one lucky Stylephile reader a Bedford Nylon Bea handbag in Pearl, a soft and lightweight purse that is Teflon-coated for water repellency (!), and lined with a custom satin nylon. It features Italian leather trim and custom hardware plus two exterior zipper pockets, six interior pockets, four tech pockets (each wide enough to accommodate a Blackberry, Treo, iPhone, etc).
It's worth $365 and can be yours...just answer this question: what unusual objects have you kept in your handbag? Please leave your answers inthe comments section, and make sure to include your email address. Deadline is Wednesday March 26 at 5PM.
M Z WALLACE handbags are available for purchase online at www.mzwallace.com and in retail locations across the nation including: M Z WALLACE Flagship Store, 93 Crosby Street between Prince and Spring, - NYC 10012, (888) 600-5559.

Once we were taking the family turtle to show and tell and his container cracked somehow. I put him in my purse because I knew he would have room. Another mom who was in the midst of a messy divorce stopped me to cry on my shoulder. I reached into my purse to pull out a tissue and OH MY GOD! I screamed at the top of my lungs and since no one could see the turtle they thought I was crazy. I have learned my lesson about putting everything into my purses!

I've carried it all in my purses: umbrellas, old receipts, candy, directions to a great bistro in Paris that I have yet visit. But the most unusual thing for me to have in my purse is... my checkbook. Honestly, I've adapted to checkcards and cash to the point that I rarely use checks anymore. chicdiva04@aol.com

Let''s see...a wooden spoon that was dubbed Mr Happy or Ms Unhappy depending on if my daughter was being good or bad. Mr Happy was a smiley happy face on the wooden sppon, turn it around though and it was Ms Unhappy with a sad face. Add to that hard boiled eggs for my salads at work. The wooden spoon worked miracles by either having Ms Unhappy out on the table, or peeking out of my purse- my daughter never acted up in public places...until she no longer cared about Mr Happy and Ms Unhappy/ I got so many compliments on my spoon too that when I got be manaager, we had a huge wooden spoon, with- you guessed it Mr Happy and Ms Unhappy (the kind of spoon that was on the walls of kitchens everywhere in the 70''s) I was always the "go to " girl for whatever someone needed, bandaids, tylenol, cold tabs, scotch tape, air freshener and yes, even a tiny candle!

Thanks for this opportunity.

For about a month, I carried two screw drivers (one Phillips head and one... other kind) and a tape measurer in my purse. It may not seem so strange. But you should have seen the looks on people's faces when jokingly they would ask for a screw driver, and me, a 19 yr-old, girly as the come, extreme fashionista, would dig around in the bottom of my floral handbag and rip one out! Currently I have iPod earphones.. and I do not own an iPod, tanning goggles with no straps, benadryl cream, triple antibiotic ointment, soda can tops, and 20 yds of ribbon. rjcartin@usca.edu... pick me!

So you see I need a new bag...please!!! Thanks.

O.K., so it wasn't exactly in MY purse, but when Nashville had its invasion of the 17-year cicadas, back in the 1990s, I was at church one Sunday and was distracted by one of these large (LARGE) insects crawling around inside the purse of the lady in the pew in front of me. They literally were EVERYWHERE i the city for about 10 days - even in our purses! leighmail@mindspring.com

Strangest thing I ever had in my bag was a dead hamster! 34 years ago, when we started dating, my husband had never had Chinese food, a staple in my life. For an introduction, I ordered a pupu platter, a sampler of shrimp toast, egg rolls, wontons, spareribs and skewered chicken. Later than night, probably because that was more than we should have eaten, I dreamt I had taken the egg roll home in my purse, wrapped in a napkin. In my dream, I open my purse to find the "egg roll" had morphed into a tiny Asian baby girl, with flowing black hair. My husband and I cared lovingly for this baby. As I said, it was just a dream....but one I never forgot! aprshwrz1@aol.com

No matter where I go-for business or for pleasure, to the grocery store or to Europe- there are 6 things that I always have in my purse that some might consider 'unusual': a portrait of an unknown young boy in uniform that I found on the street in London, a rock from a mountain in the Yukon, a seashell from Miami, a whisker from my cat, a piece of my grandfather's favorite shirt, an antler bone button that a stranger gave to me in Alaska and a good luck blessing that wards away "Fiery Guests". Luckily none of these things are heavy or take up much room! gr8hrt1@mac.com

Two odd things: #1) an orange playball that was the favorite toy of a beloved childhood dog. It still has his little teethmarks in it. He's been gone for 21 years now, but I still carry it with me to keep him close where ever I go. #2) a twelve-inch flat blade screwdriver that my father gave to me to carry. He said they couldn't classify it as a weapon (of course now, I remove it when I fly). It came in handy when I was physically attacked once and I was able to fend off the perp with it. rubyschuze@yahoo.com

There was a time when a girl couldn't leave home without a checkbook but today most use their ATM or Credit Cards. You must have a least one in case you run accross a really nice purse or a cute pair of shoes.(tlundy1016@yahoo.com)

When traveling alone by rail or bus, I always carry three special items in my purse: a ball of twine, a roll of toilet paper, and a steak knife. With those three items, I feel prepared to handle anything. At nighttime in particularly dodgy locales I've slept with the knife under my pillow. Fortunately, so far I've never had to use it for anything more scary than cutting Camembert (which has also lived in my purse on more than one occasion). saragracer at gmail dot net.

Ok. I can''t top the hampster or the LAX story, but I think my purse contents are certainly unusual. I smoke, but I don''t really like the taste, and I don''t care for menthol cigarettes, so I smoke with a peppermint in my mouth. I keep a stock of peppermint Breathsavers. The bottom of my purse is usually littered with loose peppermints that have escaped the roll when I''ve reached into my purse for one and pulled one out without removing the roll from my purse. Then there are the onesies - the last mint that has the remnants of foil still securely wrapped around it. There are also lots of little balls of foil and a few streamers of blue wrapper, and always, two or three fresh rolls of Breathsavers. lroy27@aol.com

I carry around little toys and candy, so when I'm out, if I see a child who is sad or troubled, I ask the mother if they can have a toy or a piece of candy. The children light up like a Christmas tree at Christmas. It gives me such a warm feeling. Some may think I'm weird for carrying toys and candy around, but the reward is worth it when I see the childs face and eyes light up.

My mother, daughter and sister do too.

If we went out and the kids got hungry, they were perfectly happy eating crackers with the McChicken sauce!! I know, its gross and not very good for you, but it did the trick in a pinch!! Now, I always carry Monistat "bullets" in my purse as I have chronic thrush and unfortunately, am allergic to other yeast killing medications and have to suck on the monistat almost regularly!! My fiance plays hockey and just last week he calls before practice and says he's forgot his jockstrap and cup. I'm on my way to meet some girlfriends and grab it on the way out the door, and put it in my purse. It's an evening purse of the smaller kind, unable to zip up with the newly added items and when I get on the bus, reaching for my wallet, the whole kit falls out of my purse and onto the floor. True. Not funny. I pick it up and squeeze it back in (elegantly) and the driver winks at me and whispers "I would never have guessed". I'm still trying to figure out what he meant... molly_welin at yahoo dot com

There have been many things over the years that likely would be considered unusual. The mouthpiece that I was wearing the night I dashboarded a bull, and imprinted my teeth prints very deeply into the silicone they are still there three years later. Baby teeth. Always some sort of pocket knife or small sheath knife. A repeating rubber band gun. A leather quirt. A flogger. Various tools. A pair of snake eggs when I was in elementary school. Dried seahorse earrings. A sand dollar. The little angel wings from another sand dollar. A starfish. Mind you, not all of this was/is at the same time, but at one point or another, there may have been any combination of any of the above in there. bcmoorman@gmail.com

It's hard for a struggling artist to keep body and soul together. And to keep a STYLISH body and soul intact you really need to sweat that creative muscle. You need a good-sized, waterproof bag to scoop up any freebies or party favors at the latest red carpet event. The most unusual giveaway I've put in my bag is a PINEAPPLE - thanks to my (now) husband at a film party in Cannes. His first romantic gift! My bag is truly a carry all! No one ever quite know's what I'm going to pull out of it next. Today inside the magic bag I have sticks, motor oil and a couple of small gardening tools. Tomorrow it will hold different items but all just as unusual. :)

Well, I was a 4H-er in school. Since I lived in the city, could not raise pigs or cattle for our yearly 4H Club festival. So, I came up with an unique display for my first entry, and I won (since there were no other entries in that particular field!). I carried all three in a large purse that had belonged to my grandmother. Each was in their separate cloth bag until I was able to put them in the glass case for display. There were three Hognose Snakes that spent most of the time turned upside down and playing dead. Which is what they do in nature to protect themselves when threatened - just like opossums. My reputation was made - for good or for bad - depended on whether one liked snakes. Not a lot did. I recall the judges could not stop laughing at this 10 year old's entry.

I always carry a huge tote, to hide the amazing mix of items in my bag ranging from a pair of flipflops (when the high heels start to make blisters), poo poo bags(when the chihuahuas make a mess), dog treats, 500 lipsticks, a copy of my photo , resume and sometimes voiceover cd. My Treo, two sets of keys, some weight watchers oatmeal or peanut butter bars, advil, extra tampons just in case and a pen stain remover. Also a huge makeup bag with tweezers and nail implements.

This is totally sad/lame... at one point I had to carry around two working cell phones (one with a HUGE walkie-talkie thingy), a Blackberry, a PDA, an iPod nano AND an old cell phone where all my phone numbers were stored. I went crazy every time something started beeping. I definitely could've used some thoughtfully appointed tech pockets! eeeestar@hotmail.com

typical film gal...I have had hammers, screwdrivers, gaffer tape, lighting gear, esp. Gels (soft focus for interview subject). Beta Sp tapes, mics, and odd bits of cable that I''m convinced the camera guy just wanted to offload We once had a contest like this at work on a tv series. Very hard to win in a group of film gals...since I now am a Mom, u can add Kid''s Gear: Once pulled out a pink baby sock instead of a kleenex on set with director...the typical wetwipes, bags of crayons and pads, etc have come in handy onset once in a while too...oh and if you have a bag that can nicely fit a script in it. I usually buy it...so yeah, I could use that bag... catg@telus.net

The strangest thing I''ve had in my purse was my husband''s needles for starting an I V. He works as a manager at the hospital and puts the needles in his pocket, takes his scrubs off in my car and they fall out. I get so embarassed when I happen to find them & stuff them in my purse before anyone notices and before they wrongly assume I''m taking drugs intravenously or something. The other unusual things I''ve had to stuff in my purse was my former boss'' nameplate from his private office during the winter to protect it from falling off from the wind and rainstorms. My purse is filled with stuff that demonstrates I care way too much for people!! It''s a mad, mad, purse! Sincerely from foxed80183@mypacks.net

Basically, when I bought my first LARGE designer bag, I didn't knwo what to put it in it because all I usually carry is a cell phone and a wallet (on a good day). So I tried adding water bottles, make-up bags, etc but there was still so much room. At the end, I decided to stuff my bag with plastic bags! I loved the idea until I left my bag unattented at a New Years party and all these people were like "Who's bag is this and why are they carrying plastic bags around"..it was horrifying!! But at least now I know how to manage large bags!!

I carry TONS of stuff in my purse constantly. My purse is more bulemic than anorexic (you know, binge and purge) but my favorite thing that I keep in my purse is my purse ninja. That's right. It's a tiny rubber ninja I keep in my purse. A friend got it for me out of a vending machine at a bowling alley and I thought it was pretty much the funniest thing I had ever seen. I put it in my purse... and it kind of just stayed there. I eventually decided it was my purse-sonal (oh the puns!) security system. Sadly, it does nothing to protect me from leftover Junior Mints after a night at the movies. Why do those boxes always explode in my purse!

What weird things I keep is cut up straws, I cannot be without them, I smoke and lots of times I try to trick my mind in believing these are cigarettes so I dont smoke. one time I had dropped all my straws on the floor ar the DRs office and was feeling a bit red in the face.

The most unusual thing I ever carried in my purse - and no, it wasn't the urine and poop samples carried for myself or my late dogs, nor the role of industrial strength velcro, nor the African thumb piano - although I've carried all of those things. No, it was the breast pump that was in my purse wherever I went after my daughter was born. That pump was in and out of my purse in LA, NY, London, Paris, Berlin, Tijuana and all points in between. bvoland@usa.net

I attended a promotional party for KY Jelly with my client. It was called "Liquor and Lube." As I enjoyed the liquor, he stocked up on the lube. Unbeknownst to me, he stuffed 37 tubes of KY Jelly in my purse. I discovered them when I reached for my wallet at the next stop in the evening and tubes came cascading out. A gardenia, usually fresh from my garden room tree, a mini of good brandy, and a couple of stones are often in my purse. As I pass the cemetery, I leave the gardenia for mom, because she loved them so, pour a little brandy on dad, much the same reason, then leave the stones on their stones in the Jewish tradition. Gets a little heavy with those stones in there, but it always makes me feel better. Usually you'd find a stuffed animal or two in case I visit a grandbaby, which is a very different and joyful adventure. I am always prepared for all generations.

Sounds like some of these ladies could win on "Let's Make a Deal". (I immediately thought of that show for this contest.) True story: I have had a dog and millions of dollars of diamonds in my purse at the same time. I have represented some amazing jewelry designers and one used to make me travel sometimes with a few million dollars of pieces on me. It made me very uncomfortable and nervous as I would have preferred the pieces to be shipped or sent via my client''s security team instead of using a 5''4 blondie to transport the collection on an airplane. While coming out to LA years ago to work a major awards show and dress A-list stars in the diamonds, I was instructed to hide the diamonds in my Yorkie Disco''s blanket inside my purse. Going through the airport security was a nightmare and having to explain what I was doing transporting the diamonds in such a bizarre way all while making sure no other passengers overheard so as not to let people know what I was carrying one me, was CRAZY!!! Somehow I pulled it off and managed to get Disco and the diamonds to LA safely and on the red carpet for the awards show. amy@in2itmedia.com

My good friend had brought me a ziplock full of acidophilus (for yeast infection) when we met for dinner. When we decided to go to the local club for drinks the huge doorman searched my purse, pulled out the baggie and looked at me like I was a drug dealer! Yikes!! I had to explain in front of the line up what was in the bag and he actually asked me what that was and if I didn't announce that I had a yeast infection to the crowd I could have been in BIG TROUBLE!! Was I ever RED, I needed a drink after that!!

A hammer. I was picking up a friend of mine to go to a dinner and she asked me to bring her a hammer to hang some pictures at home. I totally forgot to give it to her -my purse is always heavy with stuff anyway. When we got to the restaurant, and after a few birthday martinis, I got in a stupid argument with two guys. Then my phone rings, I try to grab it from my purse but it's the hammer that comes out, scaring the heck out of the two guys... you should have seen their faces. My parrot. Standing out on the sidewalk one day talking to my neighbors, a street vendor rolls by and rings his bell which startles Boris, my parrot and he leaps down to the sidewalk and starts pinwheeling his way up the street, to the delight of the neighbors dogs that take chase. With much screaming at animals I manage to catch Boris before he crosses the street and stuff him into my purse, with much protest on his end, and march him back inside to the safety of his cage. Thank god for large bags and slow dogs.

I used to keep this little astronaut action figure in my purse for a very long time because I always wanted to be an astronaut. Even after I realized that was never gonna happen, I still carried him around because he was a great distraction anytime I had to take care of my cousins, and it was fun being known as the girl with the toys in her purse. I know this is supposed to be about something I''ve carried in a purse, but I have a story that is perfect for this topic! Three years ago I was at LAX waiting to go through the 2 hour baggage check line. Everybody was already irritated because they were forced to take off their shoes...it was actually pretty funny watching these network execs take off their perfectly pulled up socks revealing their sock tan line...Then this older woman with a Mary Poppin-like bag got pulled over for questioning. Everyone was staring at her, the execs were hoping something exciting would liven their boring lives. Then this old woman pulls out Aunt Jemima Syrup, the heel of a yellow high heeled shoe, little girls barbie lipstick (that was most defiantely being used by her) and a whisk. Right away my mind tries to come up with terrific stories of why this woman is carrying all of these obscure items, but all I could come up with was: Quentin Tarantino wrote a new film that was being directed by Tim Burton and the old lady was Johnny Depp rehearsing for his sure-to-win-an-academy-award role. If that''s not bizzare enough for items in a handbag, I don''t know what is. Oh, they ended up taking the woman''s Aunt Jemima Syrup away and let her move on. madpatter@charter.net
