GO GREEN: Hold Aloft

W Hotels offers an eco-chic stay with ALOFT inThe eco-option at most hotels includes hanging up and reusing towels so they don’t get washed daily. Unfortunately, the seemingly endless supply of hotel towels is a favorite part of the experience. Where do they come from? How many can we possibly order at once? What is the purpose of that medium-sized towel that’s not a washcloth and is too small for drying off post-shower? If it's a hand towel, do we dare use it on our face? Well, W Hotels is developing a concept that will approach the eco-friendly hotel visit from more angles. ALOFT, as the brand will be dubbed, will boast a "see green" program that includes outdoor elements like a parking garage with tons of greenery and nature-happy grassy backyard behind each location. There will be special preferential spots reserved for hybrids, a hybrid house car, and a car-washing station called "rinse" that offers eco-friendly cleaning agents and reusable cloths. To cut down on plastic bottle use, bliss bath products will be in dispensers in the over-sized showers (wait - no more stealing samples?!) Building materials like recycled teak wood will be used throughout the properties. Even the "splash" pool will be cleaned with Clarity Water or Sal-Chlor products. Of course, guests will also have the option of saving water by keeping their sheets and towels for several days. And if they opt not to, at least they’ll have helped in other ways as well. To open in 2008, alofthotels.com
