Fashion Week Kicks Off (L.A.)

Fashion fiends need not fret. You don't have to be an industry insider to get a big dose of on-the-cusp style for fall '06, as a handful of events are open to the public (though be prepared to cough up a little cash to participate). March 16 (6 p.m.-8:30 p.m.), designer Carlos Rosario and costume designer Kathy Findling get together with editors and publicists in the biz to discuss fashion product placement at "Seen & Scene" at FIDM, an event put on by Fashion Group International L.A. March 17, decide between Maggie Barry's show at the P. Kabu Independent Runway Series (7 p.m.-10 p.m.) at the Cooper Design Space downtown or Gen Art's event, The New Garde (8 p.m.-11 p.m.), featuring shows by Kit Pistol, Mandula and Unhee at The Park Plaza. fgi.org, $45; pkabu.com, $25; genart.org, $35
