Mama mia, Montegrappa
I was researching luxury pens the other day and stumbled upon this beauty by Montegrappa, the one of the first Italian pen manufacturers. Known for their ornate design and golden nibs, Montegrappa has been the pen of choice for many a discerning scribe, including Ernest Hemingway who apparently used a Montegrappa pen to write letters home during the First World War.Merely visiting their website transports you to the town of Bassano del Grappa, where the company is based. Try reading this excerpt out loud, in an Italian accent: "Montegrappa's pens are reserved for those who can't live without the emotions inspired by the feel of a crafted writing instrument between their fingers, responding to their delicate movements. As they guide the Montegrappa pen across the paper, the eye follows the ink as it seeps
in." Mama mia!
This pen is created using a sophisticated die-casting system, and the design is based on Feng Huang the phoenix, an ancient symbol of rebirth. It is available in sterling silver, and for truly blinged-out autograph givers, in 18 karat yellow gold with diamonds.
