Divine Providence
Wine and cheese are age-old partners. Swanky cocktail parties and art openings have long relied on a smattering of Gouda or Burrata and some fine reds and whites to add panache and sophistication. Then inevitably guests file out, remarking "What lovely wine and cheese . . . Does anyone want In-N-Out? I’m starving!" Not so at tonight’s lauded Providence Winemaker Dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Chef Cimarusti, sommelier Drew Langley, and vineyard owner Paul Hobbs have put together a delectable 5-course tasting menu, including glazed Japanese eel with crushed potato summer truffle, and quail egg and air-chilled Muscovy duck breast with cocoa nibs, watercress veloute, and smoked cippolini onions both paired with wine from the Paul Hobbs Library. Hobbs will also be enlightening guests about the wines, so everyone leaves satisfied both mentally and gastronomically. $160 (plus tip and tax), 5955 Melrose Ave., (323) 460-4170
