A Whiff of Overexposure



Something smells funny. WWD recently reported that Mariah Carey will release her new fragrance "M," while Gwen Stefani unveils "L" for L.A.M.B, of course. Sean Combs has a new scent for the ladies called "Unforgivable for Women" and Usher is in on the game, but we're not sure of its moniker yet. The launches come in spite of the fact that celebrity fragrance sales are down by 17%, according to marketing research firm The NPD Group. 

Could the bloom be off the proverbial rose for star powered products? The Stylephile wonders if the public has tired of celebrities cashing in on their famous faces to promote everything from fashion lines to bubble bath. (The stigma that drove stars to Japan to promote mundane products like razors and deodorants is lifted, now that  Jennifer Aniston is the face of Smart Water.) When it comes to milking the cash cow, Scarlett Johansson is getting plenty of calcium. The actress is the spokesmodel for Louis Vuitton, the face of L'Oreal and she designed a line of sneakers and clothing for Reebok.
