A Question of Taste

Mixed-Doubles throws two dating/cancer awareness eventsStandard speed dating leaves something to be desired. Rules stipulate you can’t make the usual small talk about career or lifestyle, so what’s left but to pose lame questions about favorite colors and furry pets? Well this Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mixed-Doubles offers the same 3-minutes with potential suitors aged 28 and up, but they’ve created an activity to ease the awkward pain. For $42 each (50 percent of which will go to Breast Cancer Research, so maybe you’re likely to meet socially conscious types), each set of hopefuls will mix martinis, taste Korbel champagnes and chambord Liquers, five types of California wines, hor d’oeuvres, and desserts together. So ingesting a bunch of alcohol can be a common denominator, which – let’s be honest – is what most of us rely on or a real first date anyway. $42, RSVP: register@mixed-doubles.com, Saturday: George’s Bistro, 28261 Newhall Ranch Road, Valenica, (661) 257-3435, Sunday: Origami Bistro Bar, 24501 Towne Center Drive #101, Valencia,(661) 222-2235
