Thumbs up to the Posh Spice / Marc Jacobs ads

Thanks to the New York Times' rather fabulous lifestyle blog The Moment, we got this sneak peek of the Posh Spice for Marc Jacobs ads. The images, which show Mrs. Beckham peeking out of various Marc Jacobs branded shopping bags, create an obvious commentary—Posh as product, packaged by Marc Jacobs. In the first image she's peeking out like a Jack in the Box, planning a great escape, from her own commodification perhaps? In the second, somewhat masturbatory image, her legs are splayed and she's submissive, worn out from it all. (One reader of "The Moment" wondered whether those actually were her legs popping out of the bag.) And the third, we see Posh in Public, composed and posed, ready to take on the world from behind the protective wall of fashion.
Personally, I like these ads. They capture the essence of Posh (product) while showing us her quirky and altogether more humble side.
Thumbs up.
