Nostra-Damus
Many a reality show star has murmured "you'll see me again," as he or she stalked off the proverbial island. On Thursday night fashion world devotees and friends took another gander at Project Runway winner Jeffrey Sebelia, as he showcased his fall 07 Cosa Nostra collection. Models stalked down the untraditional square runway at 2121 Lofts downtown in warm autumnal tones like burnt umber, granite and taupe, which softened the look of the designer's occasionally extreme lines. The most successful garments were women's deerskin leather jackets and pants, perhaps because the inherent edge of the material made Sebelia less inclined to force the "rock n' roll" look. While plaids looked more ska than punk, woolen knit blazers, knit baby doll and pintuck dresses, a cotton sleeveless hoodie and of course Sebelia's signature zipper frocks in various colors and fabrications drew applause from pensive onlookers like fellow Project Runway alumna Nick Verreos (literally with chin in hand) and actress Lisa Edelstein of House, M.D. As this line feels like a step-up from its predecessor, seems like we may be seeing Jeffrey Sebelia again. cosanostrainc.com
