No Way, Jose Cuervo
Everyone has a too-much-tequila story, usually involving shots of old friend Jose and a subsequent head pounder. Your mantra: "I'm never drinking tequila again." Ditch the Cuervo this Cinco de Mayo and opt for a smoother, tastier spirit, minus the hangover if you practice a smidge of moderation. Gran Centenario's premium tequilas are a solid bet. Plata (silver), Reposado (rested) and Añejo (aged) are all excellent for cocktails; the latter of the three, like fine cognac, is best sipped from a snifter. $49.99-$57.99, Available nationwide at spirits retailers

ditch the cuervo? a fine idea as their "gold" is vile stuff -- but guess who makes gran centanario? that's right: jose cuervo.

Another great tequila is Tonala Anejo. It's a single barrel aged for a minimum of four years in sherry wood and small oak burbon barrels. Lush and complex with a hint of sherry wood, tropical fruit and spice.Posted by martti | May 5 2006 12:36AM
