Legacy Lives On
Bad jokes, uncomfortable silences, hammy attempts at amping audience participation – sometimes live performances can be a bit . . . awkward. That may be why, especially in tinsel town, we tend to stick with movies. Still the silver screen does leave us with unanswered questions. Well now AFI offers viewers the chance to screen movies that filmmakers credit with shaping their careers at their “Cinema’s Legacy” evenings. Tonight marks the first in the series, welcoming Dennis Hopper, who chose to screen Louis Buñuel’s (italicize) Virdiana. Guests will watch the film and then hear directly from the Hollywood legend. Future guests include Forest Whitaker (Oct. 10), Robert Towne (Nov. 14), and Bill Condon (Dec. 7). $10, afi.com, Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., tickets: (866) 468-3399
