Costume Party
We all appreciate fine directing, writing, acting and even special effects—but just think of how lame Marie Antoinette would have been without the cool costumes. As of today, in honor of awards season, you can ogle costumes up close and personal at the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing (FIDM)’s 15th Annual "The Art of Motion Picture Costume Design" exhibition, which showcases actual pieces from over 25 fine flicks from 2006 and last year’s Oscar winner for costume design Memoirs of a Geisha. This year’s films include Marie Antionette, Dreamgirls, For Your Consideration, The Good German, The Queen (pictured here), Perfume: The Story of a Murderer and more. Saturday evening’s opening fete attracted nominees like Sharen Davis (The Queen) and hundreds of other designers. At FIDM, a costume is worth a thousand words. Free, The FIDM Museum and Galleries, 919 S. Grand St., (213) 624-1200, x2224
