Think Inside the Box
From corporate lawyers to refugees to postal workers, lately it seems like everyone is swapping their normal jobs for a career in jewelry design. But if they’re all casting necklaces, who is delivering the mail? Well Tuscan dancer and jewelry designer Ippolita is flipping the switch to focus more on home design. While she’ll continue her jewelry work, she draws on her sculptural experience when creating unusual pieces like her signature Bento Boxes. The red and black boxes usually associated with Japanese cuisine are filled with small trinkets and art works like ceramic busts, glass starfish, and petrified wood. With titles like Earthly Delights, Artifacts, and Sea Creatures, the home décor pieces are works of art exploring the notion of collecting. $1,500, ippolita.com
