GO GREEN: Food For Thought
They say eating at home is healthier. Cooking is less fattening and nutritious than dining out because you can choose the ingredients. Here’s the thing: Hamburger Helper and deep fried chicken cutlets don’t really fall into that "health food" category, despite the fact that you prepare them in your kitchen. Instead take a page out of Earthbound Farm’s new organic cookbook Food to Live By. The organic lettuce brand promotes pesticide, hormone and preservative-free farming and emphasizes seasonal ingredients in recipes for treats like Raspberry Corn Muffins, Strawberry-Tarragon Salad with Aged Balsamic Vinegar, Heirloom Tomato Soup, One-Pot Beef Stew, Grilled Lamb Chops with Mongolian Sauce, Farm Stand Meatballs, Sweet Pea Risotto with Prosciutto, Ginger Snaps and down home Harvest Pie with Apple, Pear, and Cranberries. Now that’s some health food any of us can get behind. $21.95, local bookstores and ebfarm.com
