Who are Alex & Chloe?

I first spotted one of Alex & Chloe's minimalist, angular Lucite jewelry designs in a magazine editorial, a strange pendant that looked like a diagrammatic of a diamond. "Intriguing." I thought. "Who are Alex & Chloe?"
I tried to picture the design duo in my mind. Alex is a boy, long-haired and handsome, skinny-jeaned and spindly-fingered. He probably has one chipped front tooth, which makes him all the more charming. He wears beanies, even when it's not cold. Chloe is his girlfriend. She is taller than him. They share a bungalow together in Echo Park. Maybe they have a design studio somewhere downtown. They met at Art Center when she was borrowing a pink flamingo from the prop room for a photo shoot, and he was returning a fake palm tree. After falling deeply, obsessively in love, they decided it would be fun to start a jewelry line, crafting "zero carat diamonds" that were actually made of plastic. Making gold pendants made from molds of tooth extractions. They dreamed of setting Paris on fire, and created a pendant that showed it bleeding, dripping, in silhouette.
None of the above is true.
(Apart from the thing about the Paris pendant.)
The truth is...I can't tell you the truth. A friend revealed to me the designer's true identity, but I have been sworn to secrecy. Like Martin Margiela, who refuses to be photographed and will only be interviewed by fax, the designer/s behind Alex & Chloe prefer/s to remain anonymous, enigmatic, a mystery. All I can tell you is...don't ask too many questions. Enjoy the fantasy...

If starting a clothing line I would consider naming it "SkinDeep". A rather convoluted explanation...funny yet sincere; channel surfing last night I came across a mother/daughter beauty pageant where the contestants came up with "team names". One was Skin Deep which caused the judges a bit of consternation and puzzled discussion, "Used in error? I don't get it! What??" was their inconclusive conclusion. I chuckled and thought about it. Certainly a controversial term on all counts. 'SkinDeep', clothing that's beautiful inside and out. 'SkinDeep', clothes as comfortable as the skin you're in, 'SkinDeep' because beauty is only...... robin@robinkriegerla.com
