A sample sale worth visiting

eM Productions is holding a sample sale that makes our hearts flutter: think Kate and Kass, Suh-tahn (one of the best designers at this year's Gen Art runway show in LA, pictured), Society for Rational Dress and Grey Ant.
These are designers I very much admire, because they are among the few pushing the originality envelope while still making wearable clothing. Although some of the crazier Suh-tahn pieces might have you scratching your head a little.
The sale takes place until December 7 at the Cooper Building downtown. Address 860 S. Los Angeles St. #402, CA 90014. Cash only.
Off topic, I chatted with Corinne Grassini, designer of Society for Rational Dress a couple weeks ago. We were talking about the famous LA cult The Source, as we're both obsessed with it. Led by Father Yod, a bearded shaman with pimp style, the Source family was the most glam commune of its time. They ran a health food restaurant on Sunset Blvd in the seventies, frequented by the likes of John Lennon, Julie Christie and Tony Curtis. The women of the Source family dressed like modern-day goddesses, in hand-made empire waist gowns that swept the ground as they marched down Sunset Blvd. en masse, often breast-feeding along the way.
I was honored to have some former Source family members show up at my birthday gathering last month. They came with Jodi Wille, who runs the awesome Process books, which published a book about The Source family this year. I highly recommend it as a mind-expanding Christmas gift! Buy it here.
