Win a luxury Furla bag

A friend of mine put me in touch with one of the lovely ladies at Furla, the Italian leather shoe and accessories company founded in 1927 in Bologna, Italy. Their selection of beautifully-designed handbags have sexy names like Farrah, Elisabeth, and Yoko.

And, because they are lovely people and it's almost the holidays, Furla has offered to gift one Stylephile reader a Frida Vitello Stampa Cocco handbag, as modeled here. It's sassy, and worth over $600. Sweet!

To win:

Simply visit the Furla website, take a look at the Autumn/Winter 2007/8 bag collection, and guess which bag is the Stylephile's favorite, explaining how you came to your decision. Bonus points for perfect spelling and punctuation. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, December 5 at 5p.m.

At first glance, the classic and gorgeous Frida bag caught my eye as being the favorite of Stylephile. After all, Stylephile is “Variety’s source for all things chic,” and this is a very chic bag. However, after further consideration, I realized that this bag, as gorgeous as it is, may not be the favorite for a big reason… it’s winter! This bag seems to be a little too prim and proper- almost plastic. All winter wear should be warm and snuggly, so I ultimately arrived at the Elizabeth bag (in suede) to be the Stylephile favorite. The Elizabeth bag is not only pretty, but it is practical. The shape and strap allow you to wear bulky sweaters and coats without struggling every time you need to pull something out of your purse. It’s suede and can handle the wind, snow, and all that winter brings; it isn’t cold to the touch like leather. Best of all, as practical as it is, it still gives justice to the Furla brand. This is definitely a Stylephile fave!

...a bag named Carola looks molto buona Is it Stylephile's pick...not so quick Virginia, Lavinia, Ilary...maybe Yoko..oh no Frida, Carmen, Elisabeth...all beautiful, but it's Farrah that brings it home. Classically feminine, slightly austere, not redeemed by bright color. Seriously alluring and sophisticated, it would make any outfit, not distract.

I vote for the Farrah in coffee! I imagine this bag would complete the look of a cashmere turtleneck and a herringbone skirt with dark high-boots and cream-colored cable tights. A very “Winter is coming,” East Coast-look. This bag is incredibly classy and reminds me of a beloved suede bag I would pull out every Fall when the leaves started changing during my college days. Also adore the simple buckles on the side and what looks like a leather pull-handle compartment to store a small scarf or gloves! Simple and classic. Would never tire of this look.

Stylephile’s fave just has to be the Frida… F: Fresh, fine lines (craftsmanship in a handbag, this is always a plus) R: Radiant leather or croc (100% high-end… you can just see the sun hitting it and the reflecting shine) I: Instantly the one you want to take everywhere (ideally completes your look – Q: I have to get dressed? A: Yes, the bag instantly draws the attention!) D: Duh, it’s gorgeous!… oh ok, Dramatic (it says Look at Me! Q: Don’t you wish I was yours?! A: Dream on, darling! ) A: Aesthetically pleasing (seriously any color, material/skin would do… the bag’s shape and style is artistically a winner hands-down.) The Favorite(ok, maybe just mine? But fingers crossed for…): Frida! F-R-I-D-A!!!

The Carmen with an "x and y" understated -- luckily it's so hot, it can stand alone... you'll get the drift!* *Note - had to spell the "word" you-know-what without an "x" and "y" because apparently just the word won't go through w/ Variety's restrictions on certain blog comments?! ;0 All of the Furla bags are indeed gorgeous, but my strong inkling is that Stylephile’s fave is the “Carmen,” an incredibly se*, slouchy yet refined object of desire with an aura of sophistication, class and mystery... (What numerous, beloved tricks and trinkets I could hide in this gorgeous specimen?!) As you can tell, I’m strongly gravitating to the Carmen… I don’t know if it’s the soft, metallic color of the model bag, the indentations of the “Vs” on the leather form that go from wide to narrow, or the silver round hardware at the tassel and at the points of the bag’s open gathering that pull it tightly as one, but all make for a stylish, dynamic, se* combo… and truly all -- in my opinion -- make this bag top-notch above the rest and just seething with the word: “Voom–voom se*!” Love it. It’s to die for. I want it. I’m gonna have to track this one down. Thanks, Stylephile. ;) But then again, Christmas is around the corner… I can always plead with Santa.

I say the lucky Yoko is número uno! Metallic is all the rage this season but I prefer this little number in white. No worries though, you will find her in almost any color imaginable. Yoko continues to lay on the charm with curvaceous and softly structured outer edges. Adding interest with juxtaposing elements, her orderly handle frames a completely organic mouth and strong triangular shapes blend fluidly into the round lines of the bag. All this plus the fact that the design of the mouth is indicative of a bag that will hold more than expected (and still look fierce) make Yoko a favorite for this season. I suspect you feel the same way too!

Stylephile, O Stylephile How lovely are your handbags? Under the tree or on an arm, The cozy leather would keep me warm O Stylephile, O Stylephile Please grant me your favorite handbag! The delicious Yoko looks splendid with everyday Boston chic, but could easily stash your flats for holiday festivities. Absolutely adore it in white cotton, but who would turn down ANY color in a fab bag?

Posted by Sara | Dec 3 2007 8:57AM

I think the YOKO B0W9 BY66, page 2 of bags, bottom of the six shown, 1st one, is the most classy and is Stylephile's favorite bag because it is the most sensational in cut and design. I love all the beautiful colors it comes in. It can be used at almost any time, where a larger bag is not appropriate all the time. It says it all, elegant and sophisticated style. It is a bag that will work for the younger woman to an older seasoned one.

Stylephile has annointed "Elisabeth," as the favorite Furla, for its architecture, aesthetics, and agnosticism of season or setting. The myriad options of material and color transport the customer to the very workshop of an Italian craftsman, where she can select a look that's unique to her. Elisabeth is the perfect-sized shoulder bag: neither wider that her wearer, yet large enough for all the essentials (No, not a teacup poodle! Then again, this bag is not for the trend-obsessed). So, am I right...or close? In any case, this was fun to write. Thanks for the challenge!

I am writing this entry for my mother. She has had a very tough year and needs something uplifting for the new year. She lost her mother and brother in law and something like a new bag would provide a simple pleasure that she needs around Christmas time. She is an avid reader of the blog, and in my opinion the epitome of the Styleophile reader. My attempt to find the bag of the season, is an attempt to imagine her making a wish list while browsing the Furla store. Mom thinks to self: "I need something uplifting for the new year. Something fun and enjoyable. Lighthearted. Nothing too young, and flashy though - so bright colours are out. All patents and stamped leather are in! The bag should be big enough for me to carry my life around with me, but not so big that my life gets lost inside. Cluthes and evening bags are out. I would like something that I can carry in my hand - a bag that I can swing beside me on those bright cheery mornings, and on the drap rainy ones. All shoulder bags are out. Finally I want something that can be transformed with a scarf tied on the handle..." So... what did she pick on her list?? The favorite bag of the season? Loto - vernice onyx! The perfect bag to lift a mood - shiny, swingable, classy, and big enough to put her life into. I wish you all Happy Holidays - and fingers crossed!!

I am a guy and I'm not really into bags, but I would try to win this prize for my girlfriend. In my opinion, Stylephile's favorite bag is white Virginie, because is at the same time simple and stylish. Plus, the white Virginie reminds me of a snowflake, so I think it would be perfect for this winter!

Italy does it better! I love Furla and I'm proud to be italian! From the collection, I love the Elisabeth Bag. Soft napa leather, delicate to the touch, a confortable shape, roomy and perfect for this winter! Plus, it's available in a lot of colors: my favourite is blackberry, perfect match for my boots! The Elisabeth bag is the perfect bag for a shopping spree in a cold winter afternoon!

The Yoko is the Stylephile bag of choice for Winter 2007/08. Selected in the Vitello Stampa Cocco Ingrassato version, which is offered in four luxurious color choices (my favorite is sigaro), this piece of arm candy converts wardrobe staples into wardrobe statements. Definitely the bag of the season!

The Loto Bag. Stylephile's favorite bag of the season, winter 08. When looking for the bag of the season it is important to decide and to chose one that will be remembered well. A bag that stays beautiful and is still representative. Bonus points go to bags that stand out, nothing ho-hum makes favorite bag of the season! The fabric of Loto is now, and the shape is classic. A great choice for the season and a great way to remember how we wore. Lisa lisa132@hotmail.com

Superb construction, finely-crafted leather, and attention to the smallest detail make the Frida Vitello Stampa Cocco is the obvious choice for Stylephile's favorite. This chic, sophisticated, luxurious bag will always make a fabulous statement: whether on your arm as you browse the racks at Nieman Marcus, by your side at the big Board meeting, or perched on the backseat of the cab bound for the office Christmas party. This bag is elegant, attention-getting and yet timeless, a stylish and luxurious way to transport and transform our ordinary everyday things into the realm of the extraordinary.

The brown Elisabeth is clearly the winner. Clean lines, sophisticated but youthful looking, elegant and chic. This bag makes a huge statement. Definitely THE bag for the savvy and knowledgeable dresser!

Posted by Sandra | Nov 29 2007 1:03PM

While the Frida Vitello Stampa Cocco handbag is TDF and will look fab on my arm, the Stylephile''s fave has to be the CARMEN. Its chic simplicity and sumptuous suppleness goes from the set to The Ivy to the Hamptons. The CARMEN will be the bag of choice among the A-listers - if they are lucky

Posted by Cindy K | Nov 29 2007 12:48PM

In an attempt to NOT reinvent the wheel, and going with this season's luxe and textured trend, my guess is that the stamped Frida is The Stylephile's "it" Furla bag. The numerous color combinations make it a crowd pleaser and the shape and size make it a great all-around handbag---day or night---work or play.

Posted by Not paper or plastic | Nov 29 2007 12:43PM

With metallics being so hot right now, I would say the favorite is the Carmen Laminata Trapuntata bag in Piombo. This gorgeous silver/gold sheen looks fantastic anywhere and everywhere!

The FURLA faux snake skin “Elizabeth” handbag is a Stylephile favorite and THE Holiday handbag to have. Elegant, sophisticated, and roomy enough to hold heels and extra special clothing for those last minute, impromptu Holiday parties. First and foremost: FURLA.

The Loto Vernice in onyx gets my vote. It is sophisticated, unique, classic, yet trendy with a style that says, "I''ve got it all together," much like the audience to which Stylephile caters.

Posted by AF | Nov 29 2007 11:41AM

Of course, Stylephile's favorite bag is the Frida Vitello Stampa Cocco bag. First of all it's big so it will hold all of the wonderful trinkets I go out and buy during my lunch hour (gotta get an early start on Holiday shopping right!?) yet it has structure and doesn't look like I'm lugging half my wardrobe around on the subway. I'm sure Stylephile loves the reptile goodness...because I do. Chic and sophisticated, suitable for work and after-work shananigans!

Posted by Fabulous and Holds everything! | Nov 29 2007 11:30AM

My vote for your favorite goes for the Frida Vitello Stampa Cocco bag (the same one you are giving away). It's stylish with a classic look, which is pumped up by the great reptile skin. Best of all it's large - as we are always carrying our life in our bags!
