The Wylde One

Designer Paula Thomas is a warm host with a statuesque laugh—the type of woman who hugs you hard and tells fantastic stories. Last week, the former model celebrated the release of the book "Death Valley" (an artistic look at her latest Thomas Wylde collection) with a lively dinner co-hosted by Flaunt magazine in the penthouse at the Chateau Marmont. Guests like Courteney Cox and David Arquette joined Vincent Gallo and Kelly Lynch at what appeared to be a more madcap than the usual fashion fete of ladies who lunch. At my table, model Michele Hicks and I discussed the merits of buying trendy looks at Forever 21. Still, Hicks—along with Minnie Driver and Marley Shelton—opted to wear black cocktail dresses (think wedding cakes in black) from Thomas Wylde. Each guest left with a sumptuous cashmere-silk blend blanket emblazoned with a skull. One guest even tried to make her own quilt, apparently. The producer Mark Canton told me that a woman had attempted to grab his gift blanket. Thankfully, they didn’t have to tussle, as she sacrificed her purloined surplus.
