If the Shoe Fits

Gola football shoes celebrate a centennialTurn of the twentieth century England doesn’t exactly evoke images of men dressed in athletic apparel.  Apparently soccer (ahem, football) became a source of fanaticism long before the invention of nylon warm-up pants. The proof is in the Gola Classic sneakers (ahem, trainers), which have existed in the U.K. for over 100 years. Since the creation of the first official Gola football shoes (leather boots), boxing, rugby and football stars and teams like Manchester United and Liverpool FC endorsed the company. Now celebrities from Robbie Williams to Coldplay members to the Gallagher brothers sport the brand. Even Madonna’s dancers don Gola boots on tour, but that’s a whole different kind of sport. $65-$90, golausa.com
