It's espadrille season, Duckies!

Created by humble Basque Country peasant-folk, the lowly espadrille has built a formidable fan base that now spans the globe. Donna Karan championed the shoe, and Rubber Duck, the L.A. footwear firm known for their waterproof snow joggers (Jessica Alba and Hillary Duff couldn't get enough of them at Sundance), is presenting its Spring '08 espadrille collection.
Rubber Duck's "Los Drillos" line features smooth fabric lining, natural rope, and a big SMILE on the sole of each design. And look, no laces! Perfect if you're gearing up for sunny beach days ahead. Plus, 10% of all profits go toward the "wealth, health, and well-being" of Rubber Duck's factory workers in Bangladesh and China.
The shoes come in some rather eye-catching prints, and we have three pairs (worth $30 each) to give away.
To enter, leave a comment telling us about your favorite pair of shoes. Be sure to leave your email address in the body of the comment. Deadline is Wednesday April 2 at 5pm.

Up until very recently, I had a pair of bright blue Doc Martens, etched with flowers. I got them while on a trip to England with my youth orchestra when I was just 15 years old. AFter I had bought them and put them on, my friend thought it'd be fun to climb the very steep belltower of an old church. It was the most painful breaking-in experience ever, but it worked. Those shoes rocked. daniellekwock@gmail.com

When I was 11, I had these lime green (almost neon) Converse All-Stars, and I loved them! My friends thought I was crazy, because everyone else was still wearing black and white shoes, but I loved that they were unique, and nobody had them but me. I saw those shoes as a way to express myself. emerald.cut.diamond@gmail.comPosted by lime green | Apr 2 2008 8:05AM
I bought my current favorite pair of shoes by a stroke of luck. Two summers ago, I had just moved to New York City and was out looking for an apartment. I guess all the walking around took a toll on my then-favorite pair of flip-flops (a pair I had bought from India that were black and had little silver bells on them that jingled when I walked) because the strap on one snapped while I was walking down 1st Ave. It was way beyond repair, and all I kept thinking was, “I hope I don’t have to get onto the subway barefoot…” Just then I looked up, and my flip flop had broken right in front of Payless! I walked in and bought the cutest and most comfortable pair of flats I could find- tan with ankle straps and some weaving business on the top. Two years later, they’re still my favorite... and they were only $14! rodpatel at yahoo dot comPosted by rpny | Apr 1 2008 2:51PM

when i was a little girl, I had these rainbow sparkle mary-janes that I called "my ruby slippers". They were the most precious thing I owned. I wore them everywhere, to the zoo, to the beach, even to my grandma's funeral (my mom rejected but simply said "Grandma won't recognize me without them"). I also took them camping... And that's when I finally had to say goodbye. I was on a camping trip with my school in Anza-Barrego, and the boys thought it would be funny if while i'm in the waterfall, they steal my shoes and destroy them. When I got out of the water, There was a huge heap of wet mud in both my shoes, completely ruining the chance of me ever wearing them again... and trust me I tried. That sad evening my mother threw them out! I grew up a little faster that day, But still wish I could wear my ruby slippers.Posted by Ruby slippers | Apr 1 2008 9:55AM

My favorite pair of shoes are a pair of vintage 50s italian white leather peep toe kitten heals. They have this great open stitch detailing around the peep toe and were in nearly unworn condition. They are unique yet still maintain a classic look...which I feel pretty well describes my style. dwbrosnihan@gmail.comPosted by deirdre wynne | Mar 29 2008 10:03PM
I am big fan of TOMS Shoes. My favorite pair are my blue plaid TOMS that I glued a button on for my own extra touch. When I wear these shoes they make me feel incredibly proud to know that a child somewhere in the world was able to receive a pair just because of the ones I bought. I hope to wear these until they are worn out and have a lot of miles on them so that everywhere I go I can remember what is important in life- giving and helping other. jessica.morris-2@selu.eduPosted by Jessica | Mar 29 2008 3:42PM
My favorite pair of shoes are my Dansko clogs with the snake pattern. They were my first pair 10 years ago and I have worn them with everything and almost every where. They are black but totally not boring! :)Posted by shoppingqueen | Mar 28 2008 5:27PM
My fave pair of shoes are my light pink slip-ons with a round mother of pearl shell in the center. It's easy to wear and matches with everything :) bunnybox9 [at] lycos [dot] comPosted by Bunny B | Mar 28 2008 4:50AM

I'm all about my camo TOMS. They're stylish without trying too hard, incredibly comfortable, easy to pack and breathable. And, it's good to know that someone in need is able to enjoy this shoe as well because of my purchase. eeeeestar@hotmail.comPosted by E | Mar 27 2008 11:43AM
my favorite pair of shoes are my rust-colored converse chuck taylors that i have had for 13 years. They are beat to a pulp and have been everywhere and back again with me, and still fit like a glove and stay cute and current. I wore them to prom when i wanted to make a punk statement, i wore them to countless college classes and ridiculous rugby parties, and now i still wear them to complete the cutest jeans and tee outfits. i scribbled on the sides and you can still see the faded remnants of my ballpoint pen poetry i thought so important to broadcast. i still carry those thoughts with me - and like my shoes, i've evolved into an even better version of myself. :) lnewman@waltonisaacson.comPosted by libby | Mar 27 2008 11:12AM
