Recession sale in L.A.--LabelNYC

I first talked to fashion designer Laura Whitcomb of Label a couple of years back, when I interviewed her by phone for a style magazine. The story was only supposed to be 300 words in length, but we chit-chatted for over an hour, and when we hung up, I cursed the universe for placing this amazing lady in New York (she has a boutique in Nolita) and me in L.A. That's how cool she was. Life went on of course, and then a month ago I commented on a friend's shirt, and how great the design was. "Oh, it's by my friend Laura Whitcomb," he said. "She runs this line called Label, and she's in L.A."
I called her and she immediately recognized my voice and proceeded to tell me some exciting news: she's holding an L.A. pop-up, selling more than 1000 pieces of archival stock and past seasons' wares at a space in Mid City, spitting distance from Variety/Condé Nast/LACMA etc.
Some handbags are priced as low as $5.
"We've never done a sale like this before," she said. "We're conscious that some people are starting feel the recession."
