Win Chanel: Smoky Eye Challenge
Ah, the smoky eye. No other look screams "Sure, I'll ride on the back of your motorcycle without a helmet!" nearly as loud. Or makes a woman look as sultry. Brigitte Bardot paired a smoky eye with a masculine hat and little other makeup. The contrast is perfect. But what The Stylephile wants to know is: How the HELL do you remove the smoky eye? Turpentine? Sandpaper? Are you still wearing last week's smoky eye? (Anyone who has worn the look knows that it actually looks better on the day after.) Post a great suggestion--whether it be a method or a product or both--for removing a smoky eye and you could win a tub of Chanel Precision Sublimage eye cream, which sells for $160. A winner will be picked tomorrow at 5:00.

To remove eyemakeup you should use a fragrance free eyemakeup remover that can be used on sensitive eyes. Chanel has a gentle Biphase eyemakep remover in thier Precision line. 1) Make sure hands are washed and clean. 2) Saturate your cotton pad with the eyemakep remover. 3) Place cotton pad on the eyelid and hold it there for 15 seconds. (this will start to losen the product buildup) 4) Reverse eyemakeup off as if you were reversing your mascara. 5) Turn the pad over and gently wipe the top of the eyelid. 6)Take a new saturated pad and do the same on the other side, this will give it some more time to break down makeup particles. 5) Do this to each eye at three times. Each time with a new pad. 6) Go back to under eye area, and corners with a cutip and eyemakeup remover. 7) Take a gentle face cleanser. Wash and rinse your face. Pat skin dry (pat very gently near eye area) 8) Follow with toner, serums, moisturizer, then eye cream. (Keep eye cream in the refrigerator for a real cool treat). p.s- You can use the one you win from the Smoky Eye Challenge! This method really works! Hope this helps all of you! Pick a really sad chick flick. Your tears will make your mascara run and easy to wipe off.Posted by sunchicka | Jul 21 2007 1:18AM
Open the refrigerator , take the fat butter and use it.Posted by laura RO | Jul 20 2007 10:55PM
Baby oil on a cotton ball is my first choice for removing sultry eyes. If that doesn''''t work, then I go for the un-petroleum jelly 9works like the V*, but not made from petroleum produts and it''''s all natural).Posted by Tamara | Jul 20 2007 4:37PM
Just before you get into the shower, place some vaseline on your eye makeup. Keep a soft washcloth in the shower that you use just for removing eye makeup. The light steam from the shower combined with the water, vaseline and wash cloth and the makeup will melt right off. No chemicals this way.Posted by Deb | Jul 20 2007 12:23PM
Khiel''s makes an amazing eye maker remover. It''s cream based and extremely gentle. It doesn''t burn or sting one big. Best thing by far to remove smokey eye makeup.Posted by M. Sampson | Jul 20 2007 10:52AM
Aurora makes the best eye makeup remover on the planet. It's 100% natural and made with avocado oil, orange flower water and the essential oil of Neroli. It removes even the toughest water proof mascara with one easy swipe. This stuff is addictive because it works so well and smells so good!Posted by getaurora.com | Jul 20 2007 10:49AM
I find that washing my face with Nutrogena Facial Cleanser, patting dry, and then sweeping Burt's Bees Apricot Scented Baby oil over the eye with cotton ball usually does the trick!Posted by Olivia Holland - Rose | Jul 20 2007 9:06AM
ok gals get ready...VASELINE. so cheap and so easy to find. best bi product of my 25 yrs using it, is i look 20's ish not 40'ish...as it reduces lines. you cant argue about them apples... hahaPosted by randi | Jul 20 2007 7:51AM
I recommend Albolene Cream - a mineral oil gel that liquifies on contact, is harmless near or in your eyes (unavoidable), inexpensive, and the choice of clowns and stage makeup artists everywhere. This product has been around forever for a reason -- it works. Remove with your cotton pad & q-tip of choice.Posted by brettonpt | Jul 20 2007 5:21AM
I use a paste of baking soda and warm water.Apply to the eyelids, let set for five minutes then rinse off.Works like a charmPosted by Swtlilchick | Jul 20 2007 4:54AM
The best product that I've used for removing the smoky eye makeup is DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil. Just a small amount removes all makeup gently and effectively. For more information on this product and others' go to www.dhc.com. You won't be disappointed.Posted by LCharps | Jul 20 2007 4:42AM
I dip a q-tip into water and then into a tub or tube of aquaphor. This ointment is so amazing for removing eye make-up, to soothe burns, and to replenish dry skin. It is a great for so many purposes! But it is the best for removing the smokey eyes!Posted by asjmarsh | Jul 19 2007 10:10PM
MAC attack! One MAC swipe gently caressing the under eye-lash area ONCE, followed by an equally sweet swipe of the overall eye area will have an after glow guarantee of 48 hours. Don't be greedy - you'll blow your smoke-haze aura.Posted by francie | Jul 19 2007 9:19PM
I now use Neutrogena Illuminating Microderm Cleansing Pads. I had to get the box to get the name right! They are rough on one side, but not too rough for eyes, and the other side is soft. Now, instead of getting soap in my eyes or going to be with greasy Vaseline eyes (like I used to. Not a goood thing to wake up with kitty fur stuck to my lids!) I just scrub my face gently and then at the last I use the scrubber on my eyes. I have sensitive eyes and they don''''t remotely get irrritated from these pads. They are quite affordable even for my limited budget -- I think about $8 -- and i got mine at a drugstore which is convenient. Incidentally, I wore smoky eyes out last night (ok, I pretty much always do that look, it''''s me at my best!) Today, as per the usual, I couldn''''t bare to take it off though I probably looked a bit too made up for daytime. it indeed does look even better the second day.Posted by Danielle | Jul 19 2007 8:47PM
baby oil :)Posted by ju | Jul 19 2007 7:14PM
MAC Cleanse Off Oil is retardo. It will take off the most watertight black liner and mascara. It emulsifies in the water and is easily rinsed off. THEN you are left smelling like a sweet sweet orange. Great juxtaposition from the trampy vamp you were only seconds earlier.Posted by kelly | Jul 19 2007 7:10PM
I use Sweet Oil, which is a very mild form of olive oil. Most good drugstores have little bottles of it in the areas you'd find calamine lotion and such. It has the added plus of conditioning your eyelashes and brows as well as the skin around your eyes. It works on the most stubborn waterproof mascara out there.Posted by Morgaine Swann | Jul 19 2007 7:05PM
Palmers Cocoa Butter in the jar works very well. Just smear some on your eyes and wipe off with some tissues. Helps with wrinkles too.Posted by danielle | Jul 19 2007 5:59PM
I love my smoky eyes, wear them all the time and the best product for cleaning them up is Lancome's Bifacil eye makeup remover. Just a couple swipes and viola! You have a fresh palette.Posted by igchick | Jul 19 2007 5:49PM
I use an Almay eye makeup remover that I found at the drugstore, but I never seem to have too much trouble removing any makeup just by using soap and water. Don't wear waterproof makeup unless you're going to a wedding - it's much easier to be gentle on your eyes with regular mascara, and you definitely don't want any left on your eyes/face when you go to sleep!Posted by sarah | Jul 19 2007 5:07PM
Why take it off? I like to wake up looking glam so I say, wash your face as you normally do, admire your sultry bedroom eyes in the morning and then just touch up during your daily beauty routine.Posted by Kim G | Jul 19 2007 4:49PM
the best way to remove a smokey eye is by using Philosophy's Purity Made Simple cleanser. It wipes away shadows, mascara, liner and everything else on your face..leaving it feeling soft, not greasy! it's by far the best cleanser out there!Posted by Minaxi | Jul 19 2007 4:46PM
Vaseline and a tissue.Posted by Sue | Jul 19 2007 4:36PM
I have to agree on the Mary Kay oil-free eye make-up remover. I've used it for years and it's the most gentle but effective way to remote the most subborn make-up...especially for those who wear contacts like myself.Posted by Lisa Y | Jul 19 2007 4:20PM
The easiest (& cheapest) way to remove any eye makeup, even waterproof eye makeup, is with baby oil on a cotton ball.Posted by Ali | Jul 19 2007 3:48PM
The best and fastest way to remove a smoky eye is with Serge Lutens eye makeup remover pads. They come in a little packet of 50 for $25 (about .50 a piece - a little pricey, but well worth it). Nothing in my opinion is more convenient, effective or gentle when it comes to removing even the toughest mascara and eyeliner. Plus, since we can't bring anything on the plane over 3 oz. anymore, I have room in my quart-size ziploc for a travel size of some other product.Posted by teresamc | Jul 19 2007 3:44PM

Any eye make-up remover will do..lancome, clinique, but instead wiping and wiping, I put it on and step into the shower, the steam and product melts it away.Posted by RoxLet | Jul 19 2007 3:34PM
I use Lancome's eye make up remover - a little bit goes a long way, and doesn't leave any continued black residue. I have also found that Paula Dorf's black eyeshadow makes an excellent eye liner for your bottom lashes using an eyeliner brush similar to the one Smashbox has. The color stays without smearing and you can smudge or not - whatever your mood is.Posted by Angelynn | Jul 19 2007 3:28PM
Almay Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover Gel works just as well if not better than the expensive department store brands I''''''''ve tried, and it''''''''s super cheap! You''''''''ll have more $$$ for smokey eye products if you use Almay!Posted by Melissa D | Jul 19 2007 3:07PM
Cetaphil! This cleanser eradicates the smokiest of smokey-eye makeup and any residue...its so gentle and there's no pulling when using it!Posted by Malinda | Jul 19 2007 3:05PM
Best eye make-up remover is Lancome Bi-Facil - doesn't leave a residue so you can reapply make-up right away. Or good old fashioned baby oil on a cotton ball always works.Posted by peb | Jul 19 2007 2:42PM
The best thing I have found to use is Biore Pore Perfect Daily Deep Pore Cleansing Cloths. I have been using these for nearly 10 years now and they are amazing! Will take off anything and don''t irritate your skin or eyes (and I wear contacts). You can buy them at any drug store at around $6-7 for 30 of them. I usually buy them 3 packs at a time to make sure I''m never without them.Posted by Rachel | Jul 19 2007 2:39PM

Clinique Take the Day off eye makeup remover and a cotton swab.Posted by ReeceandMe | Jul 19 2007 2:28PM
Philosophy Purity Made Simple cleanser is the best. I massage a quarter sized dollop all over my face including eyes, careful to saturate all my lashes too, let it sit for about a minute, then rinse with a washcloth and warm water. Follow with Philosophy Hope in Jar (face) and Hope in a Tube (eye) moisturizers. Best combo out there, afterall, we could all use a little "Hope" these days!Posted by Louisa | Jul 19 2007 2:27PM
To truly remove the Smoky Eye, use an eye makeup remover (like Sonya Dakar Fresh Eyes) in conjunction with an oil cleanser (like Shu Uemura Clensing Oil). Apply the eye makeup remover first and let set (please remember to remove your contacts pre application). Follow with about 4 pumps of cleansing oil all over face. Wet hands and emulsify the cleansing oil. This will take off all traces of makeup as well as the potential greasiness of the eye makeup remover and leave your skin clean and moisturized, not tight, irritated and dry.Posted by Marisa_D | Jul 19 2007 2:25PM
Easy and cheap- Baby oil on a cotton pad, followed by ivory soap and water to remove any residue. and a little baby oil can stand in for eye cream if you're stranded without products.Posted by gayleg | Jul 19 2007 2:19PM
Pond''''''''s Clean Sweep Cleansing and Make-up Remover Towelettes. They remove every kind of eye make-up known to man. (Must be this kind...The Exfoliating don''''''''t remove eye make-up nearly as well.) It''''''''s $2.99 for a pack of 15 and you can take them in your carry-on bag too. To remove eyeliner, I cover a q-tip with a corner of the wipe. No soapy sting like soap, no blurry vision like with oily removers and the best...no trace of make-up on your eyes or pillow the next day!Posted by Maria | Jul 19 2007 2:13PM
The only way to painlessly remove the smokey eye is with body lotion. Rub a generous dab of body lotion gently around your eye, wait about 20 seconds and wipe it away with a tissue (puffs plus with body lotion because they are extra soft and don''t pull on your eye area). Any other method takes 10,000 q-tips and way too much patience!Posted by Lola Lola | Jul 19 2007 2:08PM
I have to second the Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover. It's like a miracle... especially since I've got the full 1960s look down. In a pinch, rub vaseline over your eyes and then wipe off the vaseline with a tissue. In a *serious* pinch, chapstick works the same... but feels very, very wrong.Posted by Danielle Farrar | Jul 19 2007 2:07PM
I use Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Make-up Remover. It's about $16. Shake, squeeze some onto a cotton ball and just rub over each eye. I may use more than one cotton ball. After, just rinse with warm water and dry and you'll be au natural in 2 minutes flat.Posted by Erika B. | Jul 19 2007 1:51PM
Use a q-tip dipped in almond oil (available in health food stores). It removes the make-up with ease, doesn't pull at the skin and washes off easily.Posted by Pepgal | Jul 19 2007 1:49PM
Slather entire eye in Pond's cold cream. Let marinate for 30-45 seconds. Then wipe with Kleenex tissue. Repeat on other eye.Posted by Leslie | Jul 19 2007 1:49PM
Been wearing the smoky eye since the 60,s Q-Tip and vaseline is the secret.Posted by mady | Jul 19 2007 1:48PM
Q-tips are no doubt key to smoky eye eradication. Personally, however, I find water doesn't cut it, baby oil is too greasy, and make-up remover/facial wipes too wimpy. But A&D ointment is just right. After getting most of it off with whatever method you prefer (wipes, washcloth, or, if you're me - Pond's cold cream - FANTASTIC), swirl your q-tip at the top of the tube - so it's coated, but not loaded - and then swipe the base of your lashes, the inner rim, everywhere - works like a charm!Posted by samquincy | Jul 19 2007 1:46PM
Mineral oil works really great and if you don''t have any on hand, Olive Oil works good also. Just rub some on eyes and wipe off with a warm cloth. Wash face with some type of moisturizing soap, such as Dove and your set!Posted by tholix | Jul 19 2007 1:46PM
It''s ALL about the Ponds make-up remover wipes for completely wiping away any and all make-up (and city dirt)! Good for even getting black eyeliner and mascara off in a hurry when you''re falling over wasted. They''re softer and moister than any other wipe on the market. Just wipe off all the make-up and splash some water on your face after for that just cleansed feeling. All that''s left to do is to stumble to bed and sleep ''til 2pm! xoPosted by Young Bailey | Jul 19 2007 1:46PM
BAR NONE the greatest product for cleaning ocular soot (I covet every drop) is Bioderma's Crealine H2O. It feels like water and melts even the toughest waterproof gunk. A soaked Q-tip in between the eyelids takes off the sneakiest residue to go from sultry to saintly in a swipe!Posted by paigeboy | Jul 19 2007 1:45PM
The best eye make-up remover around is Nivea Visage Eye Make-Up Remover. It is gentle, effective, and does not take a lot of the product to get the job done. Just put a small dab on your finger tips, rub onto closed eyes, and then wash face as usual. Nothing complicated.Posted by Vanessa L. | Jul 19 2007 1:45PM
I use Shu Uemura High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil to wipe it off. I usually use my finger tip to gently rub it off. Follow up with Sothyls daily cleanser to make my skin feel smooth.Posted by Carla | Jul 19 2007 1:40PM
makeup remove on cotton pads first, with q-tips for extra measure, and baby soap for getting rid of the oily feeling.Posted by pc | Jul 19 2007 1:38PM
I use Boots makeup/facial wipes purchased at Target. It takes you make up right off and still leaves your skin silky smooth!Posted by strangisj | Jul 19 2007 1:37PM
Another great way to remove the smoky eye is with vaseline and/or AVON makeup remover with your face cloth or tissue. Easy swipe maybe two swipes at the most on each eye. The tissue is better because then you can just toss it out.Posted by K. McFadden | Jul 19 2007 1:33PM
I use Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Eye Makeup Remover Pads. You don''t need any water. You just wipe the crap off your eye and throw the pad away--no rinsing. You can even throw some in a Ziploc bag and take them with you. And they have yummy good-for-your-eyes stuff that they leave behind. (Healthy residue?)Posted by Shud | Jul 19 2007 1:31PM
Alcohol & Q-tipsPosted by snowqueen | Jul 19 2007 1:31PM
Seeing as you really have to "work" the eye area to get rid of the smoky eye, you don't want to use any chemical products. Therefore, baby wipes are your best friend. First, take a baby wipe and wipe all the make up off the eye. Wrap the wipe around your finger and gently rub back and forth the top eyelid to remove the liner, then repeat under the bottom lashes. Finally, grab a fresh baby wipe and take a Q-tip and squeeze the wipe over the swab to moisten the tip. Take the Q tip and gently dab the eyelids to remove any other residue. (Don't forget the corners) You should now be smoky eye free.Posted by Miko | Jul 19 2007 1:30PM
I use a damp q-tip, sometimes with a little soap. It won't work if it's dripping wet, I swipe it under the running water and then wipe the excess on the back of my left hand. Wipe eye with wet side, dry with damp side (this step is important), rinse and repeat. Good for the hard-to-reach areas under your eye close to your lashes.Posted by prettywarrior | Jul 19 2007 1:25PM
