Malibu Dream House
Once upon a time the Hampton’s were dubbed “Malibu East.” To this day the Colony’s beachy architecture, luxurious light fare, and relaxing vibe is seductive. Still for most LA residents a trip to this chic strip of ocean is not an everyday affair. Maybe that’s why cancer activist and ex-ballerina Lilly Tartikoff and her daughter Calla opened the Colony Café in West LA, so that the good life could be spread around. Mary Cleary (formerly of Red) oversees operations, serving up her signature veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches, garlic fries, hot dogs – with everything from chili to jalapenos – and chopped salads. Housed in a Cape Cod-style house with nautical color scheme, customers order at the counter, sip signature pomegranate limeade with ginger and chopped mint, and next-door at adjoining Papa’s Porch indulge in frozen yogurt, homemade ice cream with Ghiradelli fudge and the Porch Brownie sundae. $3.25-$8.95, 10939 W. Pico Blvd., (310) 474-8925
