BODY by Sonya Dakar giveaway

As a porcelain-skinned young lady named Gwyneth Paltrow once said: "Sonya Dakar is the best facialist in the world. I don't really let anyone else do my facials except her."
Quite a recommendation, wouldn't you say? Especially from someone who has her pick of the world's facialists. And other dewy-skinned starlets seem to agree—Jessica Biel to Fergie and Megan Fox all swear by Dakar's approach.
In the beauty biz since 1971, Sonya Dakar runs a five-level skincare complex on the edge of Beverly Hills, offering high-end treatments like her green tea and diamond peels. Her product line, which offers around 150 creams and treatments, just launched its BODY by Sonya Dakar collection, a superior grade botanical-based skin care range infused with advanced anti-aging ingredients. “The same problems people have on their faces, they have on their bodies,” says Dakar. It features a Daily Wash, Triple Action Vita-foliant Omega Hydrator, Mineral Polish, Nourishing Body Oil and comes in two different scents:  Verbena Cypress and Cara Cara.
Sonya Dakar has been kind enough to offer a pair of her BODY by Sonya Dakar kits (worth c. $250 each!) to gift to two Stylephile readers.
To win, leave a comment telling us about the best skincare secret anyone ever told you. (Don't forget to leave your email address in the comment.) Deadline is Wednesday March 19 at 5PM.

My best advice cam from my dermatologist when I was a teenager suffering from huge horrible acne. He knew that we all mess with and pop the zits despite instructions not to do so. He told me that the best way to get rid of the whiteheads without causing the scarring that pinching does is to use an eyedropper pressed down around the middle so the clog is forced into the dropper but the equal pressure around the zit reduces damage to the skin. He also told me to put salt on it to draw out all the liquid and minimize swelling. melpostell@hotmail.com

I have very sensitive skin and crazy allergies and green tea bags have worked well for me when I have an allergic reaction to something or need to calm down blemished skin. Usually I use it for 15 minutes at night, and the next day my skin is completely better. chicdiva04@aol.com

Do FACE YOGA! Whenever you apply lotion/cream to your face: massage it, fluff it, stroke it upward from the base of the neck to the top of the forehead. It's such fun - flirt with those wrinkles, frowns and furrowed brows. And if you knead your neck with your knuckles - yours will be age-proof!

My grandmother swore by Pond's cold cream, Dove soap, and just a quick pat of Cover Girl powder (the kind with Noxzema added). Her sisters were also big fans of Coty powders for both face and body. All these ladies had amazingly soft, smooth, porcelain skin - because their other "secret" was, of course, hardcore sunblock. Grandma never used anything less than 45, and while we now know those numbers are somewhat arbitrary, she had it right when she chose formulas with UVA blockers like titanium dioxide - those rays are the aging ones. dorsia830 (at) yahoo (dot) com

The best skincare advice I ever received was from my mother. My freshmen year of college I began to break out really badly, so she told me to always use witch hazel as an astringent- the best thing ever. And along the way I picked up a few other alternative tricks: step 1 - take your makeup off with baby wipes - step 2: wash your face with a good face wash and a little bit of baking soda as an exfoliater - step 3: apply witch hazel! - step 4: moisturize - step 5: drink lots of water - and step 6: live and love life! mjvaccari@gmail.com

Back a couple of years ago I had a huge skin problem, no matter how much I moisturized my skin was extremely dry and peeling off. So I visited my dermatologist and learned that there's a difference between a lotion and a cream. A lotion is typically water based and a cream is typically oil based. So, even though I thought that I was moisturizing my skin the lotion that I was using was just making the situation worse! Every time I put it on, the water would evaporate and make my skin even dryer! Crazy but true. It was at that same appointment that I was introduced to Aquaphor, love that stuff!

alright, alright!!! Now I know y'all are going to laugh, but the best God Damn "zit-dissapearing-magic-cream" is (drum roll please) NEOSPORIN! I swear by it! My Aunt Kappy...you know Aunt Kappy, we all have an AUNT KAPPY, you know that aunt who has Mary Kay parties and steals all the samples?...Anyway, my aunt kappy told me when i was a little girl "Honey When the world starts making you pretty, horrible things are going to start breaking you down! When you become a woman 3 things will happen to you: you'll start bleeding like an alien, men will look at your cheeks on your behind instead of the ones on your face, and when they do look at your cheeks on your face the worst thing possible will happen...you'll have red spots all over them" she then added "trust me". So she said whenever I see a red spot or a zit that just popped...NEO it! And I swear to you all, a dab before bed keeps the zits from getting a white head! try it

I have 3 things I swear by. 1) Pepto Bismol facial--put a layer on, let it dry and rinse off. Instant glow! 2) Use Frownies at night. 3) When you're congested and have undereye circles, use a neti pot to clean your sinuses. It will reduce puffiness and dark circles. Also, take a spoon and put it in the freezer. Take it out after 5 minutes and press it on the dark circles. froggie_10019@hotmail.com

Best advice was to always remove your makeup at night. I didn't when I was younger, but then again, you think you know everything! I religiously remove my makeup every night, and depending on what's happening with my skin--dry, stressed, etc.--will determine what I use, but I won't go to bed without some kind of moisturizer. angelynn.cuthbertson@ssa.gov

Best advice: you can find the remedy in nature. My epidermis gave a whole new meaning to the phrase "bad skin." Through the first 16 years of my life, I had eczema over no less than 60% of my body. My parents and doctors tried every cream, medication, bathing regiment imaginable to sooth the constant itching, flaking and burning. I scratched to the point of drawing blood! We were all just hoping for minimal scarring in my adult life. On a trip back to Nigeria, my father sought the advice of my grandmother, as he'd grown up with similar skin problems. Unfortunately, I never memorized the names of the plants & herbs. Each night that summer, I took a warm bath, rubbed the affected areas raw with these fresh leaves and then coated my body with this paste made from water and the powder of the dried leaves of another plant. It was a painful process, but if you could see my skin now, it was more than worth it. Not so much as a dark spot remains! I was lucky and I've always taken care to moisturize and use sunscreen from that summer on. aibekwe28@yahoo.com

The best advice I got for keeping my face looking young is to CLEANSE (with a gentle face cleanser and facecloth/flannel for mild daily exfoliation), TONE (to tighten pores and purify/clarify complexion) and MOISTURIZE MORNING AND NIGHT (use a sunscreen-enriched moisturizer in the morning and a heavier cream at night). Now, I also use a make-up base that has sunscreen in it. The other great recommendation I got was to moisturize the rest of my body right out of the shower or bath with Johnson’s Baby Lotion; I use the one with Vitamin E and Aloe. I figure that if it’s safe for baby, it’s good for me. It’s very lightweight and goes on/absorbs easily. Best of all my skin smells baby fresh and feels baby soft. I get compliments on how soft my skin is all the time. :~) zestinlife AT gmail.com

The best skincare secret I received was from my mother when I was a teenager and just becoming interested in ""girlie" things and facials. She told me that whatever lotion, cream or moisturizer you apply to your face, also apply it to your neck. Sounds simple - but most people forget the neck area and they end up looking like a turkey! This great advice has worked for me - thanks Momma!

This has worked time after time.. steaming my face over a pot of boiling water by draping a towel over my face... It works to purge your pores and gives you a smooth finish. It also draws out any impurities (bumps, zits, cold sores...etc). After doing that apply face cream that has been stored in the fridge for a cooling/pore minimizing effect! Thanks to all the women who have given advice for reducing dark eye circles... I''ll have to try them all! Hello.Bekah@gmail.com

Everytime my mother would vegetable broths by boiling everything from spinach, to mushrooms , and homemade lemonade (pre-added sugars and salts) she would save the "broth" water for me to use as my last rinse after I washed my face. The juices from the natural plants you already know are good for you, leave your face soft and makes washing your face more effective! This was a beauty secret passed from her grandmother but also a way to recycle water! Eating a dinner size bowl of spinach salad steamed, is only half a cup of spinach. If you steam or boil spinach, you're eating twice as more, then you can use the water left over on your face for double the nourishments of inside and out! It truly works. Removing eye makeup is always a challenge. My opthalmologist gave me this advice. After using whatever makeup remover you like to remove mascara/eyeliner/eyeshadow, etc from your eyes...follow up by putting a little baby shampoo on a washcloth and rubbing the cloth on your eyes, making sure that you get the top and bottom lids well. You will be shocked at the amount of makeup that is further removed. This little trick saves facing red eyes the next morning. Only after the baby shampoo are your eyes "squeaky clean"

The best beauty secret given to me was: Wear sunscreen, and avoid direct sunlight. I'm always complimented on my gorgeous skin, and I believe avoiding the sun is why I look younger (growing up in the midwest- it's hard to see the sun to begin with). However, after being diagnosed with a malignant melanoma at 22, it's not only a beauty secret but doubles as health advice/life saver. rgh219@aol.com

A woman who was 75 with absolutely fabulous skin told me her secret was good ol' (and inexpensive) witch hazel and Vaseline. Now, this woman was African American with a medium cocoa complexion, so it may have been her melanin-rich skin that actually kept her looking so incredibly youthful. I'm of mixed ethnicity, so I'm blessed with more melanin than Gwyneth Paltrow, but am melanin-deficient compared to my elderly friend (as well as much darker members of my family). I have used both witch hazel and Vaseline on and off for the past 20 years, and at 40 I think my skin has faired pretty well. --createm@sbcglobal.net

I'm not sure if this counts as skincare advice, but the best treatment for thos ugly cold sores that can appear on your lip or nose area -- nail polish remover. You've heard about preparation H to shrink tissue, right? Well there are other ways to depuff your eyes without feeling like an a-hole (haha). Visine or any other brand of redness reding drops are a miracle eye-depuffer. I discovered this while, in a hurry, tossing the drops in my eyes to whiten them up and patting the extra spillage on my eyelids so as not to smear my mascara. Within a few minutes, i noticed my eyes were bright and anything but puffy. I've been using them for this ever since. -keffron@gmail.com

I once got on retinol on recommendation from my aethetician. While it's a wonder cream, she forgot to mention, a lady shouldn't wax while on it! Needless to say, after a moustache session, I bore strips of raw derm, since the wax melted through the top layers of newly exfoliated skin. All on the day of a fashion show held at LACMA! After two hours of tears, burning and searing through my red swatches, 67 year old lady at Walgreen's suggested I douse my burns with the purest of Vitamin E oil (30,000 EU). I was skeptical, but figured at $5, I had not much to lose. Imagine my welcomed shock at 72 hours later, staring the the finest, smoothest, scar-freest skin? I had given myself a peel without knowing it, and nary a scar. To date, I still drench my skin on pamper days with the oil, and at 37, I can attest...nary a line! ekdari [at] yahoo.com

I had given myself a peel without knowing it, and nary a scar. To date, I still drench my skin on pamper days with the oil, and at 37, I can attest...nary a line! ekdari [at] yahoo.com
