Break the chains and log onto Threadless.com, a truly novel idea in fashion retailing. The site allows users to submit their own T-shirt designs, with fellow users voting for a winner each week. Winning designs -- which look like the work of true artists -- are then printed in a limited number and sold on the site. (Plus, the designer gets $400 and a $100 certificate for the site.) Tees range from the witty to the adorable to the downright disturbing, but all are undeniably hip. threadless.com
