Postcard from Cannes
I'm having a faaaabulous time in Cannes, thanks in no small part to the bronzed locals, endless swirl of parties and, of course, my aptly named Postcard from Cannes high-heel sandals by Elisa Ferare. Handcrafted and super-duper comfortable, they are awesome for strolling down La Croisette—plus I heard that Scarlett Johansson, Halle Berry, and Nicole Richie all own a pair.
I heard that Elisa, a former dancer and sometime interior designer, launched her eponymous collection in 2004 because she could never find what she wanted in luxury shoe market. She wanted to add at least four inches to her 5'4" frame without sacrificing comfort. She started making her dream shoe out of her Hollywood Hills workshop by restyling a platform sandal into her ideal; a brocade-covered five-inch look. "I started wearing them, and people would constantly ask me where I got them," says Ferare. "So I decided to start my own line." Today, her collection of teeteringly high platforms, platform wedges and embellished flats is carried at Jeffrey in New York, Maxfield’s in Los Angeles, as well as several other boutiques across the country, wholesaling for $235 to $260.
Thirties and Forties motifs run through most of her creations. "Even if the fabrics are new, they're treated to look worn," she says. Ultimately, Ferare believes that a beautiful shoe doesn't really mean anything unless it can be worn. Thus, going on the idea that a dance shoe has to be more comfortable than any other, she has the collection hand-made at a Los Angeles dance shoe factory.
Air kisses to you all, and see you in 12 days!
Love, The Stylephile
You can buy Elisa Ferare's designs at Maxfields and Neiman Marcus. Click here for a full list of stockists.

Euro-phile: Wanna meet a Norwegian polar bear?
Do you have a penchant for furry, fluffy man-eaters? Then luxury travel firm Abercrombie and Kent is offering seriously intrepid travelers a unique opportunity.
With their experieinced guide Mats Forsberg (who has guided BBC production teams into the region's polar bear habitat), you can venture into Norway's Arctic wilderness and follow the trail of the polar bear. The plan being to actually find one.
This vacation is not for the faint of heart—weather conditions are hardly balmy (think 17 degrees and high winds on a clement day) and you'll camp for at least one night. But it's way more interesting than a week in Orlando.
Here's how one adventurer described the experience: "We ski to a ridge with views of both the den and the ocean pack ice, and we wait, absorbed by the sparkling silence. Soon the mother polar bear emerges, nosing the air and scanning the surrounding empty pack ice. She then belly-slides headfirst down the snowy slope. Two cubs follow, tumbling and rolling into a furry heap at their mother's feet. She ushers them toward an iceberg, moving them gently along with her massive paws. It's time for a hunting lesson."
You'll ski, snowmobile and camp your way through Spitsbergen, the last protected natural polar bear habitat. With a bear population of 4,500, chances of sighting one are supposedly excellent. (As are the chances of freezing your boobies off.) Once in bear country, you're entirely dependent on yourself, your equipment, and your guide's knowledge and experience. If you make it home alive and uneaten, you'll have enough dinner party stories to last a lifetime.
The company is booking departures for March 2009, with prices at around $14,490 per person. Click here for more info.

Showerhead that looks like a solar system

Like the Hydra, the mythical Greek serpent of the sea, this space-age bathroom accessory possesses many heads. Five to be precise. Each of these five spinning ports (which rotate 120 times per minute) delivers pressurized streams of water, generating the kind of wake-up hydrotherapy that your puny one-headed shower can only dream of. This chrome-plated bathtime gadget looks a little like a solar system, with its outer ring that holds 32 spouts, creating a wide and soothing downpour designed to soothe the sorest muscles and joints. Even though it looks like a torture device from Mars. Buy here for under $100.

Bless this house
We hear there's a new trend in home interiors—blessing them. Ceremonial artist and urban shaman Donna Henes has noticed an increase in requests for house and office blessings, and her publicists say it seems to be "the biggest shelter trend since Feng Shui, burying a St. Joseph’s statue, and "The Secret"."Home sellers, home buyers and home makers are asking Donna, who is based in New York, to conduct ceremonies to welcome in new beginnings and clear the space with positive energy.
Donna’s ceremonies involve drumming circles, candlelight, spoken blessings, bells, sweeping brooms, rock crystals and something called "smudge".
For 18 years, Donna was sponsored by The Port Authority of New York to produce "Celestially Auspicious Occasions", including a Spring Equinox egg-standing ritual. Most recently, she was tapped to lead the
Village Halloween Parade as the official Grand Spirit Marshall. In 1982, she composed the first and only satellite peace message in space: "chants for peace * chance for peace." Henes maintains a ceremonial center, ritual practice and consultancy in Brooklyn called Mama Donna's Tea Garden and Healing Haven.
Even if you're not in New York—clearly, it's time to get blessed.

Take a Paige out of this book..and win some jeans.
For many of us, it takes a lifetime of trial and error to figure out what clothes actually flatter our bodies. My best friend in London has one of the biggest bottoms I have ever seen, but she has figured out how to dress it so it looks feminine and proud.
I am tiny/petite/short and have learned how to elongate myself through smoke, mirrors and high-heeled cowboy boots.
That said, I still get it wrong on a regular basis, which is where a book like Paige Adams-Geller's "Your Perfect Fit" could come in handy. A former model, Adams-Geller (pictured) founded the hugely popular brand Paige Premium Denim. The book,
What she tells us is mainly good, common sense advice. Like don't wear tank tops if you are conscious of your thick arms. Or if you have narrow shoulders, do wear 1940s style peplum blazers. And if you have been cursed with a short bouncer's neck, steer clear of turtlenecks.
There are some other gems, that I would never have thought of. Like, if your tummy's on the Tellytubby side, don't carry a large purse, or wear a bolero jacket, as these draw attention to the gut area. Don't eat sugary things before a night out—it can make your breath stinky! And if you're bootylicious like my friend in London, don't buy jeans with small pockets.
Each section is followed up by a fitness plan offering specific exercises designed to shape and tone a specific body area. And there's a diet plan at the back of the book too. Buy it here.
Paige Adams-Geller has offered to gift one Stylephile reader a pair of her Blue Heights skinny jeans (pictured). To win, simply leave a comment tells us about your favorite pair of jeans. Deadline for entries is Tuesday January 15 at 5PM.

Frilly Lilly Bathcakes
I have to admit, I have issues with crazy-flavored bath stuffs.Chocolate shower gel? Espresso toothpaste? Bubblegum bikini wax?
They sound so yummy in theory, but in practice, often have a chemical pungence that sends me running straight back to my Pears soap and Neutrogena shower oil.
That said, I have it on good authority that Frilly Lilly Bathcakes are the shiz.
The bath bombs, hand-shaped and decorated to look like French petits fours and bundt cakes, look so damn pretty you really do want to eat them. That would not be advised. But then it seems a shame to toss them into bath water where they will sizzle and melt into fragrant nothingness.
I suggest buying them and hanging them from your Christmas Tree
instead.

Never leave your bed. Ever.
What can I tell you? When I saw this horrendous contraption for the geriatric bed-bound, my heart palpitated with joy. For those who, like me, spend an inordinate amount of time typing on a laptop in bed, this ugly support system could be the best thing since electric blankets and a furry dog who sleeps on your feet and keeps your toes warm. Look how there's a spot to place your mug of Ovaltine. A handy pouch for the TV remote. An overhead lamp so you can read press releases in bed. Oh, and the thing will even massage your shoulders for you. All for $125. Buy it here.

Find Your Happy Place

You’re 80 minutes into your grueling yet blissful daily yoga fix when during the twelfth Downward Facing Dog your eyes pop open, you stare at your blue waffle patterned sticky mat and grudgingly realize that not only does half the class have the same mat as you, it’s ugly and beginning to smell. Okay, so maybe you weren’t as blissed out as you were supposed to be, but how could you be on that dreadful thing you call your yoga mat? Instead, let your external surrounding give you inner peace with Beinjoy. The eco-friendly mat stretches to 183 cm, has a center guide line for pose alignment and comes beautifully embossed with petals or Koi on a lilac or blue background. While you’re at it, trade up that ratty towel you’ve been toting for padding to Beinjoy’s coordinating cushion. Mats and cushions will be available by mid-September, in the mean time just remember: It’s what’s inside that counts. (Mats $80, Cushions $30; at Beinjoy.com)

Kill Paulie Walnuts
The Stylephile shuddered with shock as the final episode of "The Sopranas" unfolded for just one reason: no one murdered the hell out of Paulie. Mr. Walnuts, with his choco-vanilla swirl coif and those cheap velour sweat suits, deserved to die hard and not so fast. Do recall: He drove Christopher to drink, plagued Tony with pointless "Remember when..." tales, and struck us as that unbearable Uncle who slips you a check for $50 for your high school graduation as he pinches your 17-year-old derriere. Come up with a toe-curling brutal end to the life of Paulie Walnuts, post it on TheStylephile.com and you could win $165 worth of Ole Henriksen skin care products, a favorite of Charlize Theron. A winner will be selected by 2:00 tomorrow. Be merciless and creative. ("By the nuts" puns are not recommended.)

Go West
Hate or love it, L.A.’s significance to the fashion world is undeniable. Clearly, Elie Tahari agrees, as he’s just opened a new boutique at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. The veteran designer explains, "There is a laid back sensibility in L.A. that translates to the way people dress. Celebrities drive a lot of trends, and L.A. is the center of celebrity life. In turn, it has become one of the most influential cities for fashion." Tahari’s sentiment is spot on, considering that Angelina Jolie just made headlines at Cannes, while sporting his designs. The new boutique will offer the entire women’s collection, accessories and even some exclusive items, only available in L.A., mais oui. $200-$1,400, Tahari, Saks Fifth Avenue, 9600 Wilshire Blvd., 4th Fl., (310) 275-4211

Brad Pitt Comes Clean
A friend noted to me that Brad Pitt seems to be emulating a certain debonair idol of bygone years while at Cannes. Pitt, with his side part and classic tux from Tom Ford, could easily sub in for Gregory Peck or Cary Grant. Was it Angelina who made him clean up his act? Hell, no. Fashion Week Daily reported that maestro Tom Ford is the svengali behind Pitt's suave new look. "Brad always looked too scruffy,” Ford reportedly said. “I wanted him to look chic, like a true movie star. Plus, he's not a bad man to clean up.” Ahem, George Clooney might want his look back. Do you dig the new Brad or prefer the scruffier version? Let us know at the Stylephile!

Though shoe and garment sample sales are a weekend staple, your favorite Cle de Peau shadow trios or Kerastase hair masques never seem to be marked down. Win My Chanel Gift Bag
The Santa Monica airport was never as chic as this past Friday night, when Karl Lagerfeld jetted in — literally — with models to present his Cruise presentation. A few choice runway looks will be featured on the Stylephile. In the meantime, here’s a quick recap of famous faces in the front row: The Olsen twins sat and evaluated each look with funereal stoicism. (Anna Wintour and WASPS nationwide would be proud of their refusal to show any emotion — not even a twitch or smirk.) The ever feline Victoria Beckham, too, watched each outfit like a cheetah eyes a limping gazelle, as if thinking, "You are weak. I am Posh. I will have you." Lindsay Lohan looked vaguely annoyed — or maybe it was accessory envy — as the models pranced by wearing all variations on the hippie headband. (She was spotted smiling after the show, wearing a Chanel head scarf. Maybe she mugged a model backstage?) But most importantly, I have a gift bag from the show containing a darling bottle of Chanel No. 5 (3.4 oz; $90) and a Chanel parking pass (blue logo; priceless) to give away to one reader of the Stylephile. Here’s the question: what’s your secret to staying fresh on a long flight? A certain moisturizer? A bottle of Moet? Be specific about your regimen and you could be head-to-toe in eau de Chanel. -- Monica Corcoran

Win a Free Blowdryer
Tired of binge eating? Ever wish that a yeti would come crashing through the window and grab that half-empty bag of rippled chips from your salty fingers? Well, you’re not alone. Someone once told me that Anna Wintour curbs her appetite by spraying perfume on her food. My source says that he has seen her nibble on a few bites of rare steak at a dinner and then discreetly spritz her meal with Chanel No. 5. Is it true? Can’t say. Is it smart? Well, even I wouldn’t endure a fine mist of Guerlain on my gummy bears. Or French fries infused with Fracas. Do you have a fool proof method for not overeating? Or a trick that nudges you to eat more sensibly? Post your suggestion at the Stylephile and I will reward the best tip with an FHI Heat Pro 1800 blow dryer ($150; fhiheat.com). It seems a bit contradictory that the fashion world’s beauty standard demands giraffe height, but high-end shoes in corresponding large sizes are scarce. We can’t win: Large and small shoes are nowhere to be found, and common sizes like seven and eight disappear off the shelves before we can say, "heel!" Luckily, tiny, long and average tootsies alike will find beautiful homes at Stuart Weitzman’s upcoming Fall 07 Trunk shows in NYC and LA. At the Madison Avenue store on May 15-18 and at the Rodeo Drive boutique on May 21-23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., shoppers can get first dibs on the new fall collection in sizes including 6-12 AAAA, 5-12 AA, 4-12 B and 5-11 C. Flavin of the Month
Anyone who believes that L.A. is culturally bereft obviously missed LACMA’s Dan Flavin opening on Wednesday night. A people watcher’s dream, eclectic guests—decked out in everything from Prada to Vivienne Tam—strolled through the galleries, shrouded in shifting colored light. A festive crowd sipped cocktails and noshed on vegetable empanadas in the courtyard. Curated by new buzzed-about LACMA Director Michael Govan, the comprehensive exhibition showcases a range of work—from the 1960’s on—by Flavin, who is often discussed in the company of Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt and Carl Andre. Now, the show is officially open to the public, so feel free to soak up some of that rich L.A. culture. Meanwhile, take a gander at history in the making. The new LACMA building is in a state of mid-construction, but the scope is still quite impressive. $9, LACMA, 5905 Wilshire Blvd., (323) 857-6000, lacma.org

Mother Love
Based on our individual issues, I think it’s fair to say that there are many types of mothers. Some are frumpy, some are vain, some bake cookies, some run companies, some are accepting, some are critical and one is, well, Angelina. Still, Kinara’s Mother’s Day Makeover Package seems like it would suit almost anyone. A consultation with skincare expert (and Kinara co-owner) Olga Lorencin-Northup determines the most beneficial course and is followed by spa treatment like an Anti-Aging Facial, Lomi Lomi Hot Stone Therapy, Scalp Massage or Lashes by Kinara. Around $300 worth of relevant skincare products will be included, as well. Book lunch in the café and spend some quality time. Win My Dior Bag
Ladies, listen closely. Do you hear the high-pitched cackle of designers laughing, as they feast on gold-gilded crab cakes and diamond-encrusted Dover sole? Here’s the joke: The fact that women are spending nearly $1,000 for a plastic Chanel tote or $4,310 for the new Fendi Spy satchel. Are we insane? Apparently so, since there are hardly any designer purses selling for less than a thou these days. The new organic canvas shopper from Stella McCartney is priced at $495 and that’s, in essence, a grocery bag. Even a nylon Prada fanny pack sells for $420! In revolt, I will pass along my vintage petite Dior saddle bag—festooned with navy logos—to whomever posts the best way to "look" busy at work. Go to the Stylephile and tell us how to procrastinate AND get a raise! I will pick a winner by tomorrow at noon. -- Monica Corcoran

Saturday Night Fever
It may not be Christmas, but the spirit of giving pervaded in LA on Saturday night. At Hullabaloo, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music fundraiser created by Red Hot Chili Pepper's beloved bassist Flea and the school's dean Keith Barry, audience members (including Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Val Kilmer) came out to support kids who rock. At a raucous live auction to benefit the scholarship program for low-income students, among other items, a Chili Pepper-signed electric guitar went for $3,000 and a set of eight Damien Hirst prints went for a whopping $150,000. In the true spirit of folk hullabaloos, Eddie Vedder regaled the audience with a new anti-war tune. He brought down the house, teaming up with Flea to cover Neil Young and then with the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones to cover the Who. Later, MC Woody Harrelson introduced the Chili Peppers, who amped the crowd with "oldies" like "Catholic School Girls Rule."
Meanwhile at the Beverly Hilton, OTIS College of Art and Design (west coast Parsons) hosted their 2007 Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show. During cocktail hour, guests participated in a silent auction of student-designed (fashion mentored) pieces from collections like Betsey Johnson and Billabong swimwear, Calvin Klein, Armani Exchange and Behnaz Sarafpour designer sportswear, Bob Mackie eveningwear, and BCBG and Juicy Couture sportswear. The highest bid of the night was $2,400 from Arlene Montesano (wife of Gene Montesano of Lucky Brands) for a gown by designer Susan Halloran for Behnaz Sarafpour. otis.com, silverlakemusicconservatory.com

All That Jazz
The average gringo frat boy may use Cinco de Mayo as an excuse to down vats of tequila (with salt, please!), but we enlightened types know better: Cinco de Mayo is about enjoying every facet of Latin Culture (oh, and Mexican victory over the French at the Battle Of Puebla—but you knew that, right?) At the new location of legendary blues venue Harvelle’s in Redondo Beach this Saturday at 9:30 p.m., Grammy Award winning bandleader Poncho Sanchez will dazzle the audience with a fusion of Latin jazz and afro-Cuban rhythms. Officially, the new Harvelle’s doesn’t open until June 20. So, you can grab a sneak peek, soak in some authentic culture and even drink your tequila too. $20 online, $30 at door, Harvelle’s, Redondo Pier, 100 "J" Fisherman’s Wharf, (310) 406-1931

Get Holly's Sleep Mask
The iconic image of Audrey Hepburn (as Holly Golightly) with her nose pressed up against the glass of Tiffany’s never wowed me. I have always preferred the vision of Holly with a hellacious hangover, cursing the "mean reds" or demons of depression. Want the look without all the existential angst? Check out Fred Flare’s satin replica — replete with faux lashes and stitched eyebrows — for just $14. Is there a cuter gift? I think not. And if you post a great hangover cure, you could WIN A CHIC SWAROVSKI KEY CHAIN ($75; swarovski.com) encrusted with crystals. Go to the Stylephile and tell us how to banish the aftermath of a bender. Tomorrow at noon, I will post a winner. *Hiccup* -- Monica Corcoran

Leave of Absinthe
Curly hair, straight hair, Jennifer Aniston’s hair — people inevitably want the unattainable. Perhaps that’s what continues to make absinthe so inherently sexy: It isn’t allowed. In its truest form, "The Green Fairy" is still virtually impossible to come by. The liquor’s main ingredient — wormwood — actually has healing properties though. So, if you take a walk through beauty product trendsetter store STUDIO at Fred Segal soon, you’re not hallucinating when you see a plethora of Absinthe products. Korres Absinthe Shave Cream uses essential oils and flavonoids extracted from the liquor to prevent roughness. L’Artisan Fou D’Absinthe Parfum employs notes of frozen alcohol and absinthe among other fragrant elements. Plus, DL & Co.’s beyond luxe Absinthe Candle blends anise, coriander, vertiver, mint and, of course, wormwood. Some things are so bad, they’re good. $28-$145, STUDIO at Fred Segal, 500 Broadway, (310) 394-8509

Read Their Minds and Win
Imitation may be the best form of flattery, but Nicole Richie needs a new role model. What is Paris thinking right now? Maybe: “I hope the roofie I slipped Nicole doesn’t wear off until we get off this red carpet.” Or: “Wait until I get my hands on that little Abigail Breslin. She’s next!” And what of Nicole Richie, who, in my mind, always had more character and moxie than her TV co-star? Could it be that Paris stuck a straw in Nicole’s skull and sucked away at her cranium like it was a Capri Sun? No doubt, it’s a sad day for doppelgangers everywhere. Come up with a clever caption for this picture and post it at the Stylephile and you could win a pair of oversized Valentino sunglasses, edged with pearls. Tomorrow at 3:00, I will announce a winner. -- Monica Corcoran

Playing Doctor
You’ve been patient, and now the doctor is in. After years of free-form hobos and totes, the traditional doctor’s bag is informing this season’s silhouettes. Though structured lines may feel a bit alien, fashion plates like Kate Moss are rocking Longchamps’ Legénde in shiny patent leather with fire engine red interior. Also, look out for Zac Posen’s subdued chocolate and cream Iconic Doctor’s Bag. For a more casual take, fans of the shape should check out 7 For All Mankind’s vintage-style Small Doctor Bag. The mother of all luxe denim lines has launched their first accessories collection, including this sweet brown leather piece. The doctor is even on call for the beach, thanks to Dolce & Gabbana’s Large Canvas Doctor’s Bag in fuschia. For a twisted take on the retro-shape and a seriously inexpensive investment, grab Melie Bianco’s Shirred Doctor’s Satchel in cherry red. Now stick out your tongue and say "ahhh." Another Vodka Shot?
Personally, I love sake and soju. When I’m in the right mood, an Asian Pear Soju Martini from Red Pearl Kitchen totally floats my boat. But nothing beats a classic dirty martini. Luckily, ultra-premium vodka is back. For serious fans, high-end Russian spirit Imperia prides itself on purity and authenticity. Newly on the LA scene, the liquor (a sponsor at the last NY Fashion Week and recently featured on The Sopranos) is already on the bar menu everywhere from Les Deux to Tropicana to Moonshadows. The Beverly Wilshire is even offering a cocktail called "Vodka is Russian" with Imperia and a spoonful of Petrossian Caviar. Of course, the creators of Hawaiian spirit Ocean Vodka would disagree with that drink's name. Made in Maui with MaHaLo Hawaii Deep Sea Water from the Pacific Ocean and organic spirits, Ocean Vodka may suit a beachier breed. Cocktail recipes on the website call for traditional tropical mixers like mango and orange juice, almost like rum drinks. A portion of proceeds from each bottle goes to conserving the world’s ocean resources. We can all drink vodka to that. Imperia: $29.99, shoppersvineyard.com, Ocean: $34.95, beveragewarehouse.com

Girlz in the Hood
May's arrival throws many of us into spring cleaning mode. We donate old clothes, sort cluttered shelves and even kick a few lame friends to the curb--halleluiah. After the process is through though, we are left with some pretty wide gaps. This weekend, you can fill the void with fabulous new items from the Mike & Chris sample sale. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, all the designers’ beloved hoodies, dresses, tops and jackets (of which one can never have enough—so useful and cute!) will be on sale for up to 70%-off. If you’re lucky, you’ll snag a leather bag too. My sage advice: get there early. The space is small, the mirrors are few and the garments are in demand. As for new friends to replace the old, in that department, you’re pretty much on your own. M&C: 70%-off, 834 S. Broadway, 2nd fl

Win these Kasil jeans!
Jeans are not a girl's best friend. They are as mercilessly unforgiving as a scale in a doctor's office. When I slip into a pair — or wrestle my way in, depending on my binge schedule — I can instantly gauge my weight gain or loss. The first evil omen has me jigging back and forth like a coked up River Dancer to eke the resistant denim past my thighs. Has anyone else fallen down during this demoralizing process? In a tiny dressing room at Fred Segal? (All I heard was muffled laughter and the click-clack of Prada pumps, as my salesgirl fled the scene to unleash her size 0 cackles.) Next, there’s that moment when the zipper says, "Better call MacGyver, toots" and refuses to close. But do I turn back and peel them off? Hell, no. Do you have a trick for putting on tight jeans? (A friend fasts the day before she goes to try on denim.) Post your tip on TheStylephile.com and you could win a pair of these chic Kasil jeans ($213: kasiljean.com). The style, Sylvia, features a special secret pocket for your credit card and most importantly, a reverse angled hem. I will pick the best post by noon on Friday and determine a lucky winner. Oh and be sure to also check out the cool Q&A with Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal on the site to learn about her favorite spot in lower Manhattan. - Monica Corcoran

In recent years, babies have trumped even Chihuahuas, becoming a Hollywood actress’ most essential accessory. This weekend, it’s time to thank the little people, who have served us so well with their cuteness, by snagging adorably luxe Noodle & Boo baby products, designed specifically for sensitive skin. The collection’s newest additions—Essential Care travel kits, duos of French-Milled Baby Soap, Room Sprays and Reed Diffusers—will all be in stores (complete with pretty packaging) by next week. Brazil Nut
Havianas and Brazilian bikini waxes are summer standards on both U.S. coasts. For this summer, more facets of Brazilian culture have arrived for our consumption—no, sadly, not their beautiful men. New Leblon cachaca (Brazilian rum) has just hit the scene, making Caipirinhas (Brazilian national drink) the hot cocktail at hangouts from L.A.’s Table 8 to NYC’s Cellar Bar. Leblon’s website also offers fun recipes to serve at home, including the Caipirinha of the Month: Zocalo’s Blackberry Agave. Need a bit of exercise after all those cocktails? Head to Swerve this Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 1: 30 p.m. for "Vinyasa Brasil." The class fuses yoga, cardio and Afro-Brazilian martial art, Capoeira. Now that you’ve whipped that body into shape, how about sliding into a new Le Doux bikini? Cameron Diaz seems to be sporting the Cal-Brazilian styles on the beach, which can be super sweet (just watch for an occasional dose of cheesy). This summer's "it" girl is definitely from Ipanema. Win Nars & MAC
Blog. To me, the word most resembles the sound someone makes to indicate that she desperately needs the Heimlich maneuver. It also reminds me of elderly European men on street corners, who emit guttural explosions ("Blech!" "Blugh!" "Blog!") to pass the long afternoons. Still, I rather like it since it well represents the way we spit out info. Apparently, the word affronts Anna Wintour enough that she has appealed to her Vogue staff to come up with a chicer mot—as was reported by Page Six. Perhaps the winner at Vogue will receive a free pass to eat a Kit-Kat without being fired. Want to weigh in? Visit TheStylephile.com and post your best idea for a substitute word for blog in the comments section beneath this post. The winner will receive a gift bag filled with make-up (MAC, Nars) and other great goodies hand-picked from my beauty closet. — Monica Corcoran

When Doves Cry
Nothing took the edge out of skulls like over-saturation. To the chagrin of true bikers and rockers, countless girlie girls—hoping to skew just a little bit rock ‘n roll—donned the poison symbol. Unfortunately, nothing says, "Trying too hard," like a pink skull and crossbones. Let the trend die (please!) and give peace a chance instead with Adina Reyter’s new Dove necklace collection. In Reyter’s signature style, the elegantly abstracted symbol is classic and unique, rather than "on the nose." The large and small versions are available in 14-karat gold and sterling silver, while the multi-dove piece mixes the two metals. Look out for the designer’s new diamond adorned pendants, as well. So you can get an edge, rocking something that isn't already dead. $163-$1,062, adinadesign.com

Genetic Code
The denim market is beyond saturated. Wading through all the gimmicky brands is an endless and demoralizing task. But that didn’t stop Genetic Denim co-owner Ali Fatourechi, who set out in a U-Haul to solve the denim dilemma. Fatourechi traveled to hundreds of college campuses, hosting denim sample sales (and he’s got the wild stories to prove it). He noted which cuts were most flattering and washes most popular, and realized quickly that confidence made all the difference in girls’ appearances. So with club owner Scott Sartiano and denim veteran Shaun Hurley, Fatourechi created (and then recently recreated) Genetic Denim. The collection offers the Recessive line for mini ladies, Dominant jeans for those with curves and no crazy low waistbands at all. (A pair of baggie Dominant jeans are hot on a skinny body as well). Genetic's denim Leggings are the newest rage, but look out for Sailor Pants and dramatic 24-inch wide-leg Twisted Seam jeans next. Plus, the Cobalt wash is a nod to worn out Levi's, and a must-have. Perhaps the line’s biggest statement, though, is their rejection of celebrity gifting. Because they refuse to give in to the excessive trend, A-listers like Sarah Jessica Parker and J-Lo have been heading to Curve and actually (gasp) paying money for pairs. Now that is a miracle of Genetics. $160-$240, Ron Herman: 8100 Melrose Ave., (323) 651-4129, Curve: 154 N. Robertson Blvd., (310) 360-8008, Photo credit: Retna.

Earth Angels
"Save the cheerleader, save the world."
Actually, there are easier ways to play hero this Earth Day (4/22). Some Americans will be heading to Washington, D.C. this Sunday to demand a greenhouse gas emissions cap, not too long a train ride from NYC. Others will head to global-chic shop Malgosia starting today, where pineapple fibers, organic cotton and bamboo garments will be on sale at 10%-off, with a percentage of proceeds to benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Pure aluminum water bottle line Sigg Switzerland launches their "Siggart" contest this Sunday (through June 1), as well. Your design could become the newest socially conscious style celebrities like Madonna and David Beckham tote around town—admittedly not the greatest thrill, but still a way to beautify the world through recycled metal. Plus, a percentage of proceeds will go to the Surfrider Foundation. Although not specifically green, Des Kohan is also hosting a special event with designer Pegah Anvarian (design pictured here), from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. So you can save the world, one fabulous outfit at a time. Malgosia: 10%-off, Sigg: Free Entry, Des Kohan: $50-$2,000, Malgosia: 8336 W. Pretty In Pink
Makeup may be peachy keen for summer, but everything is coming up bubblegum pink in the beauty world. This Friday (4/20) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dermalogica is wisely hosting an event to support breast cancer organization Pink-Link, instead of limiting charity work for the cause to October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month). Their targeted MicroZone Treatment for blemishes and dehydration is only $25, and is actually free with purchases over $100. 100% of proceeds for the treatment will go to the pinker than thou organization. This summer, a portion of sales from pink-bottled PureologyVolume sets and SuperStraight Smoothing Systems will benefit the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) as well. The Pureology line was originally developed to be carcinogen free, DEA/MEA free, sulfate free and even salt free for a friend with ovarian cancer. As for FHI Heat’s new cotton candy-colored Nano Salon Pro 2000 Blow Dryer, the cause is even closer to home: It’s all about you. The dryer is ergonomically designed to reduce arm stress. Plus, the pink beast employs Nano technology to remove bacteria, toxins and static from the hair, allows for 1500 hours of use (almost double the norm) and emits a gentle infared heat and low electro magnetic field to prevent damage. It's a pink world this summer. Theme Song
Theme restaurants generally scream "middle school birthday party," not "hotspot." In L.A., we tend to bring a little Disney Land to every experience though, and such is the case with the slew of new high-end themed eateries popping up around town. Haute organic spot Abode Restaurant & Lounge is opening today. Expect 200-year old recycled barn timber walls, black walnut tables from sustainable forests, porcelain wood floors and chemical-free bathroom tiles infused with 14-karat gold by French artisans.Chef Dominique Crenn serves biodynamic wines with innovative and complex, but light dishes like farm fresh Pea Soup with Mint Caviar Pearl and Cocoa Mascarpone. Meanwhile, extravagant and fun new Russian steakhouse Romanov is housed in a czarist palace (or what we imagine one might be) and offers Imperial blinis with sour cream, smoked salmon and caviar, tart Cherry Dumplings and vodka tastings. Lastly, Hadaka on Sunset defines itself as "naughty sushi," although the costumes are more Lord of the Dance than Agent Provocateur. Order the Nympho roll and eat your heart out—might as well give in to the theme. Abode: entrees $32 and up, Romanov: entrees $24 and up, Hadaka: entrees $20 and up, Abode Restaurant & Lounge, 1541 Ocean Ave., (310) 394-3463, Romanov, 12229 Ventura Blvd., (818) 760-3177, Hadaka, 8226 W. Lighten Up
Considering the intense storms presently bombarding the east coast, April showers better bring some amazing May flowers. And by then, we should all have embraced our new lighter, flora and citrus-infused fragrances to match. I'm sure your signature "year 'round" perfume is great, but you don't want to clash with your surroundings. After all, Chanel N°5 is not exactly beachy. Brand new limited edition scent "Burberry Summer"—with a Hamptons-esque insignia in pink nautical rope—combines notes of mandarin, bergamot and grapefruit with water lilies, freesia and rose for a romantic, crisp fragrance that evokes warm days. Your guy will clean up nice with new "Gucci Pour Homme II," inspired by free-spiritedness with top notes of bergamot and violet. From Animalia—whose candles are so carefully crafted that they can only be considered a labor of love—"Light" combines grapefruit, mandarin and neroli in amber-colored blown glass to represent and encourage joy. That's heaven scent for entertaining on summer nights. Lofty Goals
Downtown loft dwellers are a whole new category of Angeleno. Despite the lack of regular ammenities like supermarkets, the area's open floor plan apartments have attracted pioneering hipsters. Local artists, who have long inhabited Downtown studios and warehouse spaces, could be resentful of the new influx (and price hike). Still, on Thursday evening, many were represented in curator Seth Carmichael’s contemporary exhibition in honor of new Biscuit Company Lofts. Carmichael converted the Supreme Penthouse into a gallery space, showcasing up-and-comers and established cool kids like Shepard Fairey. Who knew stickers were so lucrative? For the next two weeks, Biscuit Company is offering design tours of three special spaces to benefit GenArt, including Kenneth Brown for LA Mart Design Center, Flow By Aleks Istanbullu Architects and the Menzie Downtown Loft. Afterward visitors can head to nearby Blue Velvet, where specialty spring cocktails like the Fuji-Ricky (with Absolut Pear and muddles Fuji apples and pears) and New American snacks like Monte Cristo sandwiches will be served at the newly opened poolside lounge. All the cool Downtown kids are doing it. Tours: $25, Biscuit Company Lofts, 1855 Industrial St., (323) 993-7211; Blue Velvet, 750 S. Garland Ave, (213) 239-0061

Lately, it seems like every celebrity from Mandy Moore to Madonna fancies herself a fashion designer, sometimes with heinous results: see J-Lo’s pants with words across the rump. As Heidi Klum reminds us during each episode of Project Runway though, you’re either in or you’re out. Klum herself is switching roles from judge to designer for the second time, launching her follow-up jewelry line — aptly named "The Heidi Klum Collection" — on QVC. The reasonably priced jewelry includes a surprisingly sweet clover motif, as well as smoky quartz, amethyst and pearl gemstones. Ohm, If You Want To
Despite the countless world music, hip hop and rock yoga classes that lately attract hordes around L.A., purists believe that music negates the centered purpose of the practice. Still, fans (like this one) think tunes ease the dullness of an hour and a half of deep stretching. Breathe easy at Exhale this evening (4/12) from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., where a complimentary ocean view Vinyasa Flow class will be accompanied by live music. Notoriously toned Jessica Biel attends Exhale’s yoga classes, as does Jeremy Piven and The Pussy Cat Dolls, and you know they can go wherever they please. Afterward grab hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and mini-treatments from acupuncture to massage to facials on the studio’s rooftop. Plus, find out more about hot fitness fad Core Fusion. Although the majority of America’s Next Top Model contestants would be voted "Most Likely to Benefit From Psychiatric Care," the pretty posers generally hope to skip Belview and head straight for Hollywood. Models have a long history of trying to break into film, often with catastrophic results. Still, some ex-supermodels are going different routes: Paulina Porizkova just published her first novel A Model Summer, all about—you guessed it—a young model. But at least she’s trying to write what she knows. Meanwhile Gail Elliot’s clothing line Little Joe is flourishing, thanks to her knowledge of fashion from years in the industry. Fantasy Island
Though The Surreal Life might have viewers believing otherwise, fantasy—not reality—is the cornerstone of surrealism: Think Salvador Dalí, not Brigitte Nielson. And fantasy is clearly hot, as evidenced by zeitgeist heavies like Pan’s Labyrinth, childish patent leather Mary Janes and baby doll frocks á la Alice In Wonderland and now designer Bodo Sperlein’s new Lladró Re-Cyclos Magical home collection. At Tart on Melrose this Thursday evening, Sperlein and guests toasted the west coast launch of the line, which separates itself from Lladró’s relatively conservative reputation. Surrealist undertones—a nod to the company’s Spanish heritage—are clear in highlights like the Chandelier Niagara, which dangles a cluster of uniquely engraved fairies that evoke swarming butterflies. Other standouts include black ram and horse head bottle stoppers and the Canvas Vase Flowers Tapestry, from which a delicate flowerbed appears to sprout. Sperlein’s creations are also featured alongside Viktor & Rolf’s top hat printed pieces in "Surreal Things," a show that opened last week at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. This is no time to get real. $95-$90,000, TableArt Inc./Tart, 7977 Melrose Ave., (323) 653-8278

Cocktails and Dom
When a store opens on Robertson and it’s not a Kitson, does it exist? Absolutely, if Dominique Cohen’s new flagship boutique is any indicator. At the shop's opening cocktail fête Thursday evening, Hollywood heavies like Billy Crystal and Mike Binder (writer/director/actor Reign Over Me) mingled, perused jewelry and noshed on sushi. Guests sipped champagne from straws (an 80’s trend resurging) and POM tea-infused martinis (a buzz with health benefits?) Inside the shop, revelers ogled elaborate yellow and rose gold chains that beg to be layered, delicate Cleopatra-chic bangles and rings and exotic cutout cuffs, much beloved by fans like Michelle Pfeifer, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Rachael Ray and Oprah Winfrey. In the spirit of many hot designers today, Cohen is attacking the accessories market from many sides, launching a new leather collection as well. Instead of diluting her line with that endeavor, the buttery bags add another level of luxe. The designer is also opening a Madison Avenue store in fall, but perhaps the greatest sign of Cohen’s success is her next project: designing a line for Target. Forget high-end fashion houses. Designing for disposable clothing lines (i.e. Target, Forever 21 and H & M) is today’s Holy Grail. $900-$3,200, Dominique Cohen, 501 N. Robertson Blvd., (310) 859-7206
