How to wear: A headband

Hair, like unruly brats, sometimes needs a time out. And recent heat and humidity has caused manes to frizz and silken strands to sulk. Enter the headband, a device that can tame any coif. But with styles ranging from wide to skinny, which one to pick? "An oval-shaped face is best for thicker headbands," says stylist Frederic Fekkai, whose eponymous Beverly Hills salon sells chic bands by Jennifer Behr (
jenniferbehr.com), including thinner ones for square faces. For headbands that match your hair color, check out Goody's Colour Collection line (
goody.com). To avoid making your forehead the focal point of you face, Fekkai advises: "Don't push the headband too far back. The more modern way is to wear it closer to the hairline."
